Yesterday, my DH tapped our maple tree and put buckets on for the first time! We will probably get about a spoonful of syrup if we are successful at all, but it is so exciting! Maple syrup is the first commodity the settlers made for themselves in the United States, I've read.
I've also read that you should never boil the syrup in you kitchen due to the large amounts of steam released. Oh, well. We are remodeling our kitchen this summer anyway! I have the door wide open and it's raining and it's supposed to go down to 30 degrees and snow today.
I don't care. This is FUN!
I'm making maple syrup on my stove!
