Purslane is probable somewhere in your yard, or a neighbor's. Very very common "weed" unless it's part of a menu that starts at $30.00 for a small salad! LOL

Common Purslane.... an abundant weed in my garden areas which I harvest all summer long for our salads. Very nutritious--either cooked or raw. Abundant in protein, Vit. A, E , and the vegetable world's equivalent of omega-3 essential fatty acids. Another bonus....even IF you find only ONE plant in your yard, just break off tiny joints of it, and it will take root & grow. Don't waste it, eat it!! It has been in the healthy Mediterranean diet for centuries.

c'picker---

I grew some from a starter 6 pak I bought at an "upscale" nursery near here. When I did research and found out it was a v. common weed I was more than a little amused. Actually it did not so so well being "cultivated, but I did like the taste. I bet it would be good tossed quickly in hot olive oil w/ LOTS of garlic.

Have this and two other varities coming up every year. They will take over a flower bed. Also Rose Moss.

Steve.... yep, we like purslane in tossed salads dressed with a balsamic vinegarette, garlic & olive oil. I've only had the common wild purslane. Never tried the Goldgelber variety that's advertised. With our blowing snow / ice storm today, the purslane crop is a * l o n g * way off.
