A friend gave me a few bricks of this,
Now can someone tell me the best way this is used?
do you just plant seeds in it and fill with soil?
or do you use it for cuttings?
Wilma
rockwool
well thanks for the info,
will have to tell my friend
as it was given to her too,
How long can you leave the seedlings in it? In fact, WHAT is it? Is it sold in little blocks, big blocks, what?
It is a block about 12 inches long, with little holes in it,
used to start seeds and cuttings,
looks like insulation to me..
I purchased it last year to start brugmansia seeds in.....these are a couple of threads that got me hooked on it:

edited to say they contain lots of information on Brugmansia seed starting.

well planted some seeds today in this rockwool and hope to see something sprouting in the next week or 2
Thanks for the info--sounds like something I want to keep on hand. Now the next step, is to find it...I imagine I will have to order on-line. Any suggestions? Canadian, of course! I'll check on-line hydroponic suppliers, I guess.

I have seen it at local garden centres here,
so maybe a garden centre near you might have some.
and also the hydroponic stores would have some..
Wilma
I bought mine at Rona- if you have one.
Nuttin is near me. No garden stores. And in Wms Lk, garden centres are minimal--and open after Mother's Day.
Definitely no hydroponic stores anywhere in this part of the world. (Probably because it's too cold to grow the funny grass?)

If we sent you some, would it be too late to use it this year?
I was wondering too Rosemary, how often does DH get the mail? If someone were to send you live plants, would it be safe, time and temperture wise?
Linda
thanks, Brenda, but I think most of my hard-to-start plants will be done by the time I get mail again, later this month...will look at it again if I can't get any by next fall!
Linda, the problem is from the Williams Lake P.O. out here--by unheated mail truck, about 5 hours. So I have to wait until the weather warms! That will be at least 6 weeks. I always have a fight with Lindenberg because they won't send out seed potatoes or plants until the end of April or early May, being extra careful I guess.
Ooooo I didn't know you lived off the beaten track! lol! Boy if I can be of any help, I am here. Joelle
