Weeds,

Don't have one for trade at present, but www.orchidsbyhausermann.com is a terrific vendor for most life Orchidaceae. They're $12.50 plus shipping when I looked just now, for a 2 1/2 " pot. You can call and sometimes they have larger ones they'll sell that aren't listed on website, if you'd like bigger. They grow pretty fast if they overwinter in a hothouse. I'd imagine there are orchid vendors aplenty in FL, but I'm not familiar with any of them, but Hausermann's has done me right on many occasions in the past. It has been over a year since I've ordered from them, but they're an old company and I'd trust they haven't changed.

I saw a planifolia yesterday, at a nursery [in Woodinville, WA], a tiny scrawny thing, for $39.99!!! Same size pot as above! Ouch!

OMGosh I feel a new addiction coming on!

Ocean, it is hard fighting these addictions......so I quit and just go with it now!!!

I like your attitude, weeds! I have never tried growig orchids because I'm afraid I'll kill them, or at best they will never bloom for me. But a vanilla orchid sounds heavenly- it is so pretty- and I like the prices on that website!

weeds,

I wanted to make sure you knew Vanilla planifolia is a vine, ultimately reaching 10+ ft, yes? It doesn't grow that immense super fast or anything, just over time. I got a hunch from reading this thread again that you might not be planning for 'the beast'.

I'm willing to be dead wrong, but thought I'd add my 2 cents. Anyway, good luck in growing it!

Don't forget to see if EFG Orchids has them. They used to have a small store here in Illinois (within a couple blocks of Hausermann's) until this past year. Now they're only in Florida. I've never ordered from either by mail order, but personally I preferred their quality and prices to Hausermann's when it came to buying in person.

Great, thanks to you both. I will check out EFG too. Yes, I know it is a vine and I don't grow other orchids at this time but this one I wanted.

Connie, I have an extra one for trade. Email me if you are still interested.
