Todd, your picture depicts a tree/shrub; not very tall. How old is it? How tall do you expect it to grow? I just purchased an: Acer palmatum dissectum 'Inaba Shidare' (as read off the card that came with it). Mine curves/bows over at the top and I'm thinking looks similar to yours. The card says height/width is 8-10'x10T-12'W. I'm trying to decide where or how close to my house I should plant it!?! At this point it stands about 3ft.
Any thoughts/ideas?
Thanks, Bryan

I'd be surprised if it ever got much taller than 6 feet. The one pictured is only 4 years but it is still the same height as it was when bought, albeit, much wider. It should be fine near a house...mine is quite one-sided which is fine near a house. If yours is more full, then give it 4-6 feet spacing from the house.

Todd,

Thanks for posting such a pretty picture of a JM!

Thanks Todd. I think I will go with planting it approx. 4ft from the house- at the edge of a garden. Thanks, again, for responding so quickly.

I just purchased one of these trees and plan to plant it in a container. The tree is approx 2ft tall and is in a 2 gallon container. Do you think it will be alright in a container and what size should I plant it in?

It can probably live it's entire life in a container...that will keep it smaller. It may be fine in the 2 gallon for a while but you might think of moving it to a 3 or 5.
