San Diego Wild Animal Park's Butterfly Exhibit is Coming!

Costa Mesa, CA

For those of you who might be coming to the Southern California area or who live within driving distance, you might want to check out the San Diego Wild Animal Park this March–April. Each year, they have this really spectacular exhibit of South American lepidoptera that is simply something wonderful to behold. It is only 'on' for a short time though (they bring in something like $20,000 worth of chrysalides, let the butterflies eclose, and then let them live out their lives—no host plants in the exhibit so no breeding/mating, if it does happen, results in any eggs being laid, which is a bummer…). :P Anyway, info on this show/exhibit can be found at

Take pics! I went to our exhibit today. Unfortunately, it was during spring break so it was crowded. I couldn't stand and look at the eclosing butterflies as long as I wanted to. What I didn't like about the big set ups they have, with the chrysalises pinned to the top, was that some of them were falling and had nothing to climb back up onto, thus some crumpled wings. :((((

We are going in about eight days. :) I got a new camera for my birthday so I am thrilled. I will most definitely take pictures. :)
