Hey, Guys I famous!...well almost...

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

I forgot to tell you guys that my name appears in this months issue of Fine Gardening Magazine. Last fall Jeff McClellan (from Eden Bioscience) asked if he could give my contact information to a garden writer in WA who was preparing an article for this magazine on the effectiveness of Messenger. Knowing my enthusiasm for the product, Jeff thought I could tell her about my experience. I agreed and did the phone interview in October or November. Anyway .. the article was published in the March/April issue of Fine Gardening and I raced to the store to get my copy. The article starts on page 82 and there was a quote from me on page 84! Gee wilikers -- that was a thrill for a small town girl like me - LOL

PerennialGirl -

Messenger is a foliar spray for plants whose only active ingredient is a naturally occuring Harpin Protein. Basicially the harpin protein binds to receptor sites on the leaves of plants and wakes up their natural defenses. The plants begin to shore up its strength as if preparing for an attack. As a bi-product of this action - it has been shown to also increase a plants ability to resist things like disease and pests and make more efficient use of fertilizers you have applied separately. It isn't however a pesiticide, nor a fertilizer, nor an artificial growth enhancer -- it just makes plants react as if it were. Clear as mud, huh? If you have time, read this thread I started last summer when I first decided to share my experience with messenger: (I suggest you make yourself a cup of coffee and a sandwich before attempting to read the whole thread - LOL)

Diane, I gotta say that you also made DG famous! Today, a few of us went to the SE Flower Show in Atlanta. Naturally, we had to check out the 'Messenger' booth. When we intoduced ourselves, the girls went wild, they were so happy to meet a couple of 'real' DGers, apprently the whole company watched your thread! We must of talked for 20 minutes on the raptures of both Messenger and Dave's. She even offered to come give a talk at our GARU next month!

Thanks Diane, you did GOOD!

Oh, WOW VI - how exciting! I just emailed Jeff and asked him if EDEN will have a booth at the Boston Flower Show being held March 12-17. My husband and I are going up and I will be at that show on Monday March 14. That would be great if they had a booth there!

I've heard lots of good things about Messenger so bought an ample supply to use on my Brugs this year. Am hoping it will give the seedlings a little boost to earlier flowering in my short growing season.

Awesome, ladies! Too groovy.
I followed the link to the Eden Bioscience website, and there is a spot to check if it is available in your area by entering your zip code. Woohoo, I have three nurseries here that are supposed to carry it, so I will do more investigating regarding Messenger. I think I'll give it a try.
Diane, it took 2 cups of coffee to finish reading everything. Boy, am I wired now! LOL
Thanks for all the info! :)

I've been tearing apart my house looking for the Fine Gardening (April 2005) no. 102 issue. Well, I finally found it. I scanned pages 1 and 2 seperately, so that your computer's wouldn't crash, when you tried to read this article. I'll also try to reduce it tomorrow at work, since that may work better for some people. I would recommend printing out the article for ease of reading and to retain it for future reference.

Hi Diane, that's great. I recently learned that representatives from EdenBio will be at our Spring Symposium on March 24 at Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden in Columbia. I'm looking forward to talking with them.

One of the plants I sprayed last fall was my Meyer Lemon tree. You should see the buds on it, last year it had 3 (buds). I don't have my photos here but it is LOADED. Guess it's time to mix some up.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

LindaSC, where did you locate your Meyer Lemon tree?? How old is it and does it produce lemons and do you grow it inside??? I love Meyer Lemons and would love to be able to grow them...
