Does your Vet do more than you ask?

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

I took Shamu in yesterday to have her teeth cleaned and one in the back extracted. I also asked them to remove a flappy growth on the back of her rear right leg.
When I got the bill it was $246 quite more than when I had another dog have nearly the same thing a while back. I was in a P-poor mood and commented that I was going to have to look into getting another vet. I know this is probably not too much for what was done, but it made me sort of mad because they sent the growth off to be analyzed for an additional $47. I wrote the check out and then commented, after thinking about it, "What did they do, remove all her teeth!" Needless to say I was mad. Then when I found out that they were charging to send it off I told the receptionist I didn't want it sent off because it was sort of useless. I said she is 12 and I am not planning any chemotherapy even if it is cancerous,.Which the Vet had already told me it was not the type that was cancer.
Well she came back and told me that the Vet said that was part of the procedure! HMMMM! It was listed separately. I wonder now if they don't get some sort of kickback by sending it off to the lab.
Now this isn't all. When I got her in the car and was looking over her, I checked her tooth, or where it had been. Looked fine. Then I checked where I had asked her growth to be removed, had a stitch, but looked good and cleanly done.
When I got home and put her down to use the potty, I noticed she had been shaved on her rear hip also and had had three warts removed there. Later as she walked I noticed that a little tiny wart had been removed from her left rear leg. OK with all this done, then maybe the price was not bad at all. But the clincher is, I asked for the big growth to be removed and not for four additional warts to be cut out.
I didn't get a phone call or anything asking if I could afford the additional stuff. It makes me mad thinking about it,.
I told my husband you don't go to a dentist and expect to have a tooth filled and walk out with no teeth and dentures not being consulted first. I know I take them there a lot and they probably think that they have part ownership, but this seems like a bad way to do things. Any comments?
If they had called I probably would have said go ahead, but it is the lack of communication that gripes me.
