questions on seeds
The seeds can be any color. Depends on the cross. I have found that if you put them in a glass of water and they sink, they're dead. The floaters are viable. This is totally unscientific, just a little ongoing experiment I've been conducting with my seeds.
Some of the corks will be empty, unfortunately. I find a small percentage of them when peeling seeds.
They can take anywhere from a few days to months to sprout. A seed won't sprout until the ideal conditions for germination of a particular seed have been met.
Hope this is helpful, Marie :)

I find it just the opposite. If they sink they are good and if they float, they might be bad. Guess we took care of that experiment in short time. LOL! With brug seeds, I find that a lot of them will float because they still have some cork on them. If they are totally clean of the cork, they will sink quickly. Just my way of doing it, but to be honest....I plant all of the seeds. Especially brug seeds.
okay i planted all of them. i have them in a nice warm place so we will see.
i had like 10 and 3 were empty. so i have seven little seeds now waiting on their apperance.
these are rosemand seeds.
thanks to you both !!!! Marie
Marie,
I don't even bother peeling smaller one's. The larger one's are easier to peel but I don't peel anymore anyhow. I feel like I may have injured the seed by peeling so I stopped doing that. It's really what you feel works best for you.
I've found that with heat from the bottom and light overhead, it's taking most of my seeds 8-10 days. Mine are usually moist and then I cover them with that press n' seal plastic then put in a bag for an easier transition when they start to sprout. They'd already be in the bag and I could blow the bag up and watch them do their thing.

Gosh Gretchen, you are so organized!! I just plant them all!
lol Gretchen!
What can I say, I thrive on organization.....
Don't change Gretchen. It gives others of us something to strive for. LOL!
I need you to come here ASAP, dear Gretchen. I get more befuddled by the day. Soon my DH is going to hire me a sitter I fear, just to remind me what I am supposed be doing. Well after saying this, I now remember I am supposed to be outside planting a rose bush or 2. We finally have a break in our rain! I f any of you see me back on here in the next few hours, YELL AT ME!!
