Oh! I love it! I have to WAIT UNTIL MAY for flowers outdoors! Thank you for posting your flower pictures here so I can endure the wait! LOL

How lucky you are to be able to have that beautiful salvia blooming in Feb.

Zone 2b? How can anyone live there? LOL! I lived most of my life in zone 5b, and that was bad enough! You've probably heard all kind of bad things about L.A., but I can tell you that it is plant paradise.

Salvia greggii blooms all year here. I don't know why the common name is autumn sage, so I don't use the common name.

Kelli,

Do you have a salvia trade list in invisible mode? LOL You're staring at broots and gerris2, two gardeners suffering from salvia-itis, never to be cured.

I have Salvis greggii seeds available for SASE for Americans, and I can probably work out some other kind of trade with Canadians.

Wow great! What greggii cultivars do you have, Kelli??

Mine are probably no true cultivar. They came from self-sown seedlings from a friend's yard. The color is a little closer to true red than it appears in the picture. To the casual observer, they would probably appear as true red, but my definition of true red is very narrow. To me, they are a shade on the pink side of true red. I also have some other kind, again from a self-sown seedling, that is definitely pinkish. I'm not sure if I have seeds of that one right now. It doesn't produce nearly as much seed as the redder one.

Thanks for the information, Kelli...the plant is a great color!

Kelli you would be surprised how many times I hear that. Our summers are nice with temp's around 80-95ºF. They are just very short. Last frost date is around June 15 & we can expect a killing frost anytime in Sept. Last year we were very lucky. Gardens still looked great on Oct 15 but come Oct 18 the bird baths were frozen solid & the ground was covered in snow. Winter time is very, very long. Temp's in Jan & Feb can be around -40 to -50ºF. Still have at least 2' of snow on the ground & gets quite cold.

Gerris2 is right about the salvia. I would be so happy if I lived in his zone 7. Any salvia that is a fall bloomer is out for me. But I sure do love them.
