Banana reccomendation for hot and dry Arizona

Lake Havasu City, AZ(Zone 10a)

I would like to try growning a banana. Can someone reccomend some to try that might do well in Arizona? It gets very hot here and we get very little rain but I do have an automatic sprinkler system and can provide adequate water. The biggest consideration would probably be the heat.

Most of the larger ones will take the heat..but need large amounts of water ..may not be cost effective........Raja Puri is a good landscape type..wind resistant and can take cooler nights

Hey! I know Lake Havasu, been there a few times. Your best bet would be to plant one close to the north side of your house or maybe the east side of your house that only gets morning sun. There will most likely be burning leaves in the summer time off and on (especially if you get a lot of wind). Eclipse--do you understand how hot it gets in Lake Havasu in the summer? It's a dry heat, and I know that these don't grow as well in dry heat. It's still do able. 120 in the day and 85-90 at night off and on, right? You should see if you can consult someone who knows more about growing bananas in the desert southwest, there should be somewhere, a garden center? Maybe type it in google.

I found someone who grows bananas in Phoenix who said his bananas do fine in the summer if protected from the hot afternoon sun so I'm going to give a couple a try. Rajapuri is one that has been recomended to me so I think that I will try to find one of those. WyGardener....you're right, 120 degrees is not uncommon here. I grew cannas last year for the first time and they did well where they were planted so hopefully the bananas will too.

WyGardener..yes I am familiar with the desert heat...spent lots of time there.
