This is gonna be a bit long.
We adopted a dog yesterday from the pound. Cost us $7.
He is a black Chow x German Shepherd cross.
By most all accounts he is perfect. Loves people and kids! (not that kids arent people, hehe)
We got him on the condition he was good with other dogs and cats. He was also supposed to be fixed. (I checked when we got home- he is not fixed!)
Well, we get him home and the first thing he does is attack my grandmothers dog.
He attacked my Aussie Terrier as well.
I fully believe this is a battle of the dumb males as all our dogs are males and unaltered.
Shadow (grams dog) ran up into our yard unannounced- I think it was just a shock to Inuasha to see a strange dog running up to him. Shadow is also a dominate male.
If he were larger I wouldnt worry as much- but Shadow is smaller than half Inuashas` size.
Now Inu has decided he needs to dominate Shadow and I fear he may eventually hurt him if he doesnt bow.
Baby (terrier) attacked Inuasha (chow) first. Baby in turn got 'mauled'.
Inuasha didn't hurt baby- just scared the living pee outta him.
When it happened mum said Inuasha wanted to play with baby- he bowed down and did that butt wiggle. Baby is an aggressive dog and is very jealous of every animal that tries to be with me.
Now Inuasha has decided to 'be the dominate' one. He attacks baby (not as much though). He DID draw blood- he nicked him a very little bit. So small I almost didnt see it.
So I really don't think he is trying to hurt baby- just dominate him. Baby is just dumb as a danged board and stubborn as you know what.
When he does this I can reach down and grab Inuasha and he never, NEVER bites me. He doesnt test me- he quits. (Baby on the other hand bites the tar outta us whenever he gets the chance).
My grandmother has decided he is a bad dog and now we have to give him back to the pound.
I don't want them to put Inuasha down. He is such a great dog.
We live on the same ten acres and Shadow (her dog) runs the property.
This is very upsetting to me, because my mum loves Inuasha already. He even sleeps in her bed. He is a big dog- so that says alot.
I can already see how good a dog he is- and I really wanna work with him badly.
I have until Monday to figure this out. I can't afford to cross fence our property that soon.
Do you think getting him fixed should stop the battle of testosterone?
They probably wont get Shadow fixed so it will be up to me to try and save Inu.
By the way, Inu is 1 year old.
I've worked with aggressive dogs before and have had alot of 'luck' in fixing these problems.
Maybe I can talk my grandmother into letting me work with Shadow and Inu.
I dunno- just needed to post this to get some advice.
I hate that they told us Inu wasnt ' AT ALL ' dog aggressive.
But even a docile dog can attack if threatened. Try telling my Grandmother that. :-
She had Inu pegged from the git-go as a bad dog because he is big and a chow.
My Grandfather really REALLY likes him- so it makes us sadder to send him back. :-(
Right now were keeping him inside- letting him out under close supervision. Shadow is penned up in Grams main yard.
Mum has even contemplated keeping him as a housedog.
This is probably a losing battle because of they way my family is. :-|
He seems to be fine with cats. He's scared of SLB after he got a face full of enraged cat claws.
Thanks for listening.
Jocie.
