A nudder question

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

I have a favorite Brug...a deep gold color, very fragrant. The person who gave it to me 3 years ago can't remember the name...and the only clue I have is that she self pollinates. I had 2 seed pods last year...only brug blooming at the time. As I have read, few brugs self pollinate... Can anyone narrow down the ID?

TIA,

Carol

Carol, Brugmansias are self-sterile. There must have been another brug blooming and it doesnt have to be one of yours but in the neighbourhood.

Monika...I feel like such a dummy asking this, but I thought an Arborea was a self-pollinating brug. am I completely off my rocker? Thanks, Gretchen

Carol, I almost fell off my stroller when I read that, snorting and lol, I came close to breaking my other ankle!!! Monika, I'm with Gretchen, I thought there was a self-pollinating brug, but I wasn't sure which one...

I think the reason Monika came to the conclusion she did is because Carol said the brug was colored and has fragrance. That leaves sangs out of it because they don't have fragrance and it leaves arboreas out because they are white. JMO

Gosh, I learn something new every day!! Brugie and, or Monika, does that mean brugs are self-sterile, with exception of white sangs, or are there other white brugs that will self pollinate too?? If so, which whites??

B. arborea is self-fertile.. She has small, very fragrant white flowers and crosses with B. sanguinea and B. vulcanicola only.
B. aurea, B. versicolor and B. suaveolens and their hybrids are the ones, which are self-sterile.

HOO BOY!!! I have one, single B. arborea seedling and I'm thrilled, oh happy day!!! Thank you so much, Monica, for the info, you are so very nice to take time away from what I know is a really busy time, getting ready for spring, to post us with the info. I sincerely appreciate the time you take, moving us (me) along the way, inch by inch, lol!!!
