Blooming today....outdoors...

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I brought all of my large brugs out from the GH a few days ago, so they could get some lovely rain...they are really enjoying it!
Here is what is blooming this morning...

Hey Margie, looks like you have sun there. I must get my act together and get planting!! They are all looking so pretty! An inspiration.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Yes, kell...the sun is shining and the sky is blue with fluffy white clouds. Don't know how long it will last! Isn't it up your way yet?

Rosamond also has buds...should be open in a day or two...also I think it is Cypress Garden, if it is labeled properly!

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Margie, I love your pictures, and I especially love all three of those brugs.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Very nice! Thanks for sharing. 6" of snow, 20+ degrees here today, it may be awhile..

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Same here in Buffalo, cold (20 degrees) and more light snow...it just keeps coming.
We're at almost 8 inches now in the past two days.
My mom used to say that we were "safe" once it hit St. Patrick's Day,
but I'll believe it when I see it. LOL

Margie -- they look so pretty! Thanks for sharing them with the rest of us!!!

You might want to re-think your tag. Those babies can grow so fast that your wire tie might be in-grown before you know it. I had that happen to one of mine last summer, and luckily I was able to get it off before it killed the brug, but it did leave a scar. I hope you don't mind me bringing it to your attention, I'm just hoping to prevent you having a problem... :) Gretchen

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice pictures, Margie. 43 degrees here right now. I could take another 20 or 30 at anytime.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I agree Gretchen. Last year I used the 8 inch long plastic ties that lock, and they got ingrown!! This year I bought the11 inch ones.

Margie, I noticed this morning my PB outside is covered in buds. That one stayed outside all winter in front of my garage doors. LOL. My allee, as pathetic as it is, it is mine! I t is still cool here, a bit dreary.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Good observation, Gretchen. That has happened to me before too. These things grow so fast that it can happen before you know it. I use the green stretchy plastic ties when I have to stake, and I use the plastic inserts for the names which go right into the pot.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

oooh, Margie - lucky you! I can almost smell them from here! I'm soooo winter weary...Come on Spring!!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Beautiful blooms Margie. Lucky you to have blooms this early.
Zone envy here.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you all for your nice comments....Yes, I am fortunate to have blooms this early in the season...

Also thank-you Gretchen and others for being so observant and commenting on my labeling! I will have to remove the wire labels. I thought it was a surer way of labeling then just a stake in the container....but I didn't think about it growing into the trunk.

margie, your brugs look great... much better than mine! i only have sanguineas blooming right now. though the one i have which might be charles grimaldi has buds on it. it has bloomed a little throughout the winter. also have buds on double white but they have been dropping lately.

did you have problems with spider mites in your GH? some of my brugs which were left outside all winter still have the pesky devils on them.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Mary...I did have problems with spider mites in my little GH, along with aphids and white flies...that it why I decided to bring them outdoors, so I could spray and get them separated a bit.

I really hadn't expected as much rain as we have been having...but I think they probably enjoy it after being in the warm, moist environment all winter... I know I would!!! Can you tell I don't like heat !!!

Margie, your Brugs in your garden are so lovely!

Spring Fever is DEFINITELY a contagious ailment...it spreads from coast-to-coast!

BTW, I'm going to be in your neck-of-the-woods in mid-June. How far are you from Santa Clara, where our oldest son lives?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Shirley...I am about 15 miles south of Santa Clara....as a matter of fact I went to Santa Clara Univ.
I will be home the middle of June & would love to see you! Maybe we can have a DG get together...as mmqc, plant_fiend, and a few other DG members live in this area. Actually kell and happenstance are not very far either! I will look forward to meeting you!

They look great Margie!! I got my potting soil today, so I'll be potting up soon, but wouldn't you know, rain expected Monday. When I was at the nursery, they told me that the perennials will be in a new, sheltered area this year - last spring, the wind nearly blew all of us off the map...I must remember to rebar, whew!!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

That would be SO AWESOME!!! I would love to meet you and other DG'ers in your area!!

You've got mail!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Sorry Margie, I'm sending you mail now!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Thank you, root...it is nice to see you for your birthday ! I hope it was a good one!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I had sun today also. It was heavenly!! My brugs in pots must have all the nutrients washed out by all this rain. I need to fertilize and change the soil in my big pots. Yours look so good. Are you going to plant them directly in your ground, Margie?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Kell...looks like another sunny day today too! I really, really want to plant my brugs, or at least some of them in the ground this year. My problem is making a decision of just where! Any help?! I would really appreciate ideas!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Margie, I just grab any space where I see dirt and not green. How hot do you get there? If real hot, you will need some shade. Here I can plant them all in full sun! I am obvioulsy not very hot! LOL

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

OIh how wonderful to see those pic's, they made my day. I haven't seen mine blooms since October all we have right now is rain and more snow is expected this week. Looking at your pic's I took a deep breath and just imagine i could smell them. Thanks a bunch

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

...I am trying to get all my blooms into one photo....here it is today!
The air was filled with their perfume last evening....lovely...
