Your favorite white brug and source?

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

Wondering what everyone's favorite white brugmansia would be and requesting sources for a decent size plant (gallon size or larger) to go in ground this spring? I was concidering "Super Nova" to replace a large gap left by a huge mimosa we lost last year, but I thought I'd put it out to the forum for a favorite.
Brugs grow well here and I have had several in ground for years, but I don't have a white. I need one that will grow 6-8 ft or more and will provide that awesone scent in my evening garden. I also need a variety that can take extreme heat and humidity.

I have a rooted cutting of Ericks White about a foot long and 2 inches thick.

My favorite is Super Nova. The blooms are huge, it smells awesome and it holds up to my unpredictable weather.

Oh goodness, she is beautiful Terry, good choice IMHO too! Waiting to see where I can get one of them also, Susan :)

Super Nova and Donna's Monster white are both great bloomers for me.

From what I hear about Donna's Monster brug, it loves the heat and is so fragrant. Sounds like a winner to me!

Oh she loved it when I moved her on the cement patio porch and got that heat from the bottom. This is her (DonnaB Monster Brug) the first summer I had her.

She is going to make a big tree this year!

Here is my favorite. This little plant will even bloom in the house. This was from a seed that I grew. This picture was taken in May and was the second flush of the season. The scent will knock you on your butt. Too strong for me, but does make the yard smell exotic.

I'm confused.

My neighbor has a brug and it's a tree about 15'x15'.

When I see your wonderful pictures, they are all small. Do you keep them small by pruning or are they small because they live inside during the winter?

Also, leaving mine out all year, can I still prune to keep them about 8' without harming the blooming?

You are a lucky girl living where it can grow all year long. Prune away and try and stay above the Y.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Nancy Lee I bring mine inside in the fall. If they are too tall for the house I cut the top part of the trunk to the height I want and root it in water. In the spring I have a small tree.
If your plant has already Y'd you can trim the branches above the Y but leave at least 6-8 leaf nodes for next years flowers.
I agree, you're very lucky to be able to keep them outside all year.

My favorite white would have to be my double white. I love the fragrance, and it seems to be happy in a large container. Other great whites include Knightii (double also), Snowcone, Snow White, Kyle's Giant White, and U Conn Treasure.

Ny first Brug was a Species, & it remains my favorite. It is simply perfect! It blesses me with more blossom each year, I have happily shared many cuttings with others. While I love the various colors of Brugmansias, this one really takes my breath away!

Nancy Lee, it makes a big difference in size if you can plant the brug in the ground and leave it there even 2 years undisturbed. By the end of the 2 years, you have a very large size tree!

Wow, Kell, that is awesome.

Nancy, Kell is so right. This used to be a little cutting from Logee's a couple of years ago.

I have 3 whites, MonsterBrug(White Suaveolens), Hawaiian Dbl White, and Fantasma. They are my favorites. Got rid of Candida Dbl WHite, CarolynM, Betty Marshall, Suaveolens Varigata, U.Conn. Treasure, Kyles Giant White, and Cypress Gardens

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Donna, isn't it amazing how many brugs have to go out the door?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I am getting rid of(digging up) Frosty Pink, Golfito, and Strawberrycream in a week or 2 when I get ready to plant some of my new ones. Giving them to local garden club so they can grow them and make cuttings to sell for their spring and fall fund raisers. When you first start collecting you have to have everyone there is. I had about 100 at one time now I have culled down to about 30. Have gotten more selective. Only have so much room where I can plant them in the ground. They take up to much room in the GH so I am planting every Brug I keep in the ground this year(hopefully)

OH, in other words, from the pictures, I can actually go out and sit and watch them grow.....wow. I wonder if my DH will miss me or just have me committed? This is getting so exciting I can hardly stand it. Thanks everyone.

Julie I got one of your cuttings and Sorry to say it did not make it thru the winter. Tried it using the log method. Would like to try again next year. It is a beautiful brug.

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and comments. All of them are so beautiful. I looked at my Frosty Pink yesterday and it has little tiny buds. Including a photo of last years blooms on Frosty Pink with the minosa tree in the background. It died and had to be removed.
The white brug would be in place of the tree.
If anyone is interested in parting with one of those favorites you listed, please email me!
Thanks,
Susan
