I wouldn't be surprised if Doris did buy a piece of yours Donna. Nothing would surprise me anymore in the world of brugs. LOL

Doris, when it blooms we will see.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

kell it will be awhile, I have had it a long time but it isn't growing, think I will have to get the Alfalfa cubes and try it, every place my son and I went shopping said they no longer sell the pellets only the cubes

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

DonnaB, I have one of your Monster White Sauv's and I love it! I remember you said you couldn't name it because someone said you couldn't. I was wondering why you couldn't and what was their reasoning? It is most deservingly worthy of the name...and also, to say thank you again that I do have it. (GAFall RU) :)

Julie

I had mine planted outside last summer but it didn't do as well in the ground for me. Maybe it was just the place I had it. I moved it to the cement patio and it did wonderfully. I think it like the hot heat from the bottom from the porch. This spring I'll put it somewhere else and try it like that.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

from all you all talking about it and the wonderful pics it sounds to be great.,

i am kinda curious too why you cant name it Donna. seems to me its already named really Monster brug is cute and what everyone calls it.

:}

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Sadly , Monster is not an acceptabe name for registration.

But who cares ? I love my big Monster.

Donna , did you get a cutting or seedling ?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I originally recieved it as a seedling through mail order about 10/12 years ago

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Why is that, that Monster is inappropriate for naming ? Enquiring minds want to know :-D~

Cool Donna! I feel even more honored to have a brug of this age

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

well i see none on ebay right now so will see later on.

yes why isnt moster brug a name.??? who says its isnt???

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would think a seedling you grew out, you can name, Donna!!!

And Scoot, so why is Monster not a good name? I love it!! I know there are rules, I just haven't educated myself yet. My names like Stubby and Headlights I bet won't pass either. LOL

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL Kell, I love you sense of humor, you have me rollin'!!!!! Stubby and Headlights ROFLMBO!!!

Julie

P.S. I love the name Monster too! What a great adjective to describe this beautiful, huge growing lovely brug! I think you should make it official DonnaB....or a challenge since it's been called this for such a long period of time, and the fact that you grew her out :) MHO And ditto KELL too!~lol

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

DONNA, I owe you an apoligy, I checked my records and this Monster White is from you, the one I purchased from ebay did not make it, after two months it turned to mush. good thing I write these things down.

Doris

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Kell , it's a great name just ng for registration.

I've been studying the regs for hybridizing ,trialing and registering aceptable names for months.

Still working on it ...... old dogs take longer to train LOL

Is there such a thing as a monster ? This would be the first question.

I think possibly Monster White may be acceptable but not White Monster ....... I'm not sure('-'?)

Gotta go ask one of my teeeeeeachers.

BBL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I sure have known a monster or two in my life, Scoot. LOL

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

lol

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL Kell, You're a riot.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

me too lol. Wonder if Donnas' Monster White would be acceptable that way everyone would know it is from my original brug. I have called her that for so many years I couldn't change the name lol. Would rather leave it unregistered. People can still enjoy it.

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

You should definitely register it...Donna. You grew the seed and kept the original plant growing for all this time....... WHY shouldn't you receive credit??? Scooterbug was kind enough to give me a cutting from her 'Monster' last fall. I've heard a lot of great things about your brug and can hardly wait to see the show it should put on this summer !!!!
Here's a quick shot....taken this morning.

I agree Renee, DonnaB, you should register it. I understand why crude and obscene names would be objectionable, but 'monster?? If that is correct, maybe we should talk with the name police and find out exactly which names can be used or not used. I mean the Cookie Monster is a sweetie, huh???

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I am totally in agreeance with Sherry and Renee, DonnaB, you should go for it! You are well deserving of the name you put on it and my goodness, I think Donnas' Monster White (DMW) is a great name. Monster isn't offensive especially if Cookie Monster isn't right??? lol I say do it! Maybe all of us can help with the 'Brug name Police'!!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I would think that seeing as Kyles Giant White is good ... Donnas Monster White would work .

Do it Donna ! You know more about this brug than anyone else on earth.

(sherry there is a cookie monster so it can not be used as a reg brug name.)

BA , 'no brug name police'. The International Cultivar Registration Authority (ICRA) makes the rules and guidelines.

http://www.ishs.org/sci/icraguid.htm

Please understand that "registering is not about racing to name every seedling that flowers!" There is more to it than simply posting a name on the internet!

Before you consider registering a name with ICRA please make sure you read, understand and follow the guidelines of naming a new cultivar.

Many of the older "named" brugs do not carry valid names but will be left standing to avoid confusion. Some have had their names changed which IMO should be left alone.

Do ya'll realize that Georgia Peach is an invalid name and so is Peanut?
And do you know why ?

I need a nap ... lol

So what ever happened to the naming of this wonderful brug?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

AFAIK it is still Donna's Monster Brug

I love mine just the way it is .

I have four started to ensure it makes the move with me with at least one alive ....... lol

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

What does AFAIK stand for? Do all white Sauv's grow that large or is this a different hybrid? I've noticed that several people here on DG have used the name "Monster" when referring to a large plant. Is DonnaB's Monster White still around? I would love to get a cutting for postage.

As Far As I Know

To get some 'Monster White' cuttings check out http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/740719/

Donna (S)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

There are others 'referred to' as monster white or monster brug, etc so this I why we insist on calling this Donna's Monster White after the brug's plant parent.

Named as such because of the growth habit of a very wide , bushy and not too tall shrub like appearance. Makes an excellent 'specimen' plant in a special spot all its own.

I will have plenty of cuttings for postage next year.

If you prefer a more treelike tall plant , this is not the brug for you because it is simply not genetically programmed to be a tree ;-))

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

No, I like the bushy form. I am just now trying a standard and only because grasshoppers severed a large potted Brug that had grown into the ground and I was forced to cut off a good portion of it.

She's gorgeous! Pardon me while I clean off the drool. :-)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I hear ya !

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Wooooowwww Too cool

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

hopefully soon it will offically be Donna's Monster White. ABADS says I can name it that but Brug can't be in the name. I was calling it Donna's White Monster Brug

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Yaaaaayyy, Well deserving to have an official name.

Doing the happy dance for you Donna ☺☺☺☺

Hugs,~S

How wonderful!

Good for you!!!
