My precious gift of a Monster Brug is only 2' high and has Y'd with 10 buds on it. YE GADS...is this going to be the plant that ate Hawaii? I am so thrilled!!! But am going to watch it like a hawk...It's only 1/4 mile from the house and I don't want it to take over!!!
Do you think I should take the buds off or cut the Y off so it will grow bigger/taller....???
Happily, Carol...
Precocious Monster Brug
Oh my goodness! Now we really know why its called the Monster Brug!
Holy Moly! I would just keep the buds on it and see what happens :).
Just carry a big stick with you next time you go see it - just in case it starts moving or something....LOLOL.
Sounds great...Need pictures, Good luck with it.
I have alerted the National Guard, just in case!!!
Picture to come this evening...DH has camera!!!
Thanks, DonnaB!!!!!
Carol
A terrific plant in a terrific climate, it should be outstanding!!
Bonnie
can't wait to see them Carol. I figured she would do even better there. She is truly an incredible brug. Wait until she perfumes your whole yard. It is so nice.
Carol, I love fun posts, yours are great!! I have a monster cutting too and it is doing nicely, but nearly as well as yours. Cannot wait to see your pics!!!!! DonnaB, I cannot wait for her to perfume my entire yard, sounds wonderful, and thanks for the cutting!!!!!
Carol , I just love my Monster.
As donna said she has wonderful fragrance and her growth for me was low (6 ft) and VERY wide shrubby type
that almost bloomed non-stop and bloomed heavily too, from top to bottom with blooms sweeping the ground in the breeze.
She, needs a lot of food for this performance .
I grow her in the ground as I do all my other brugs.
I've given some away for friends to plant in front of their property because she definately is a 'specimen' plant.
So you'll be needing a 55 gal barrel of fert , a long hose for direct siphoning and a chair&bullwhip ......... lol
She likes it when you call her 'Alice' hahahaha

Wow, Carol! What are you doing to that brug? Want to do the same for mine!
Scooterbug...I've got the whip and chains... Working on the commands, like, STAY/DOWN/BACK... Do you know if she likes to eat Dogs?
What kind of fert?
We have a fairly balanced soil here....slightly on the acidic side. The other two Donna sent are a bit taller but not ready to bloom....yet. So far the only fert . I've given is triple 14 when I planted them. She gets full sun until about 2pm.
Actually...I exaggerated! - (Carol, I have told you a million times not to exaggerate!!!!). She is only 18" tall and there are only 5 buds...(3 visible). Sigh.
What a brugdacious start for Monster brug. LOL. You must keep us updated Carol on the brug that ate Hawaii! LOL
LOL. Brugdacious start!!!! ROTFLMAO!
Off to machete lessons tomorrow. I have to work up to the "Brugdacious Class".... Starting out as a pink belt....working up to a ..............?
If you start at pink Carol, there is not anyplace left to go but down! LOL
LOL you 2. She loves the heat and humidity and should really do well for you Carol. My favortie things about her besides the heavy blooming is she make a huge multibranching shrub and doesn't deleaf in the heat of summer.
Sounds like a great characteristic to me.........doesn't deleaf in the heat of the summer and also the wonderful fragrance that was mentioned.
I think that once our nights warm up to the high 60s, the Brugs will start to grow more!!
The burning question I still have is how to get MB to grow taller and not become an 18" high ground cover??? Am thinking after she blooms I will cut the Y off and goose her with some high N fert. What do you think, Donna???
All I need is for Hawaiian Ag. to declare it an invasive species!
Aloha
lol , you cant do that to a brug. number one this is a shrubby brug by nature
number 2 if'en you cut the y off (HORRORS) it might take a year or more to bloom again
I M H O

OKOKOK....
Won't cut, I promise, cross my heart....
Hope someone will rescue us when we are invaded....
Carol it will grow believe me. Above the Y cuttings sometimes don't get as tall as trunk cuttings at first but it will take off. I had some cuttings potted up and DH planted it . by summer it was 3' plus lol. I dug it up and gave it away. I don't need 2 Monster Brugs side by side. Her root base is about 2' wide now after 10 plus years. She won't take over. She just gets big and bushy and needs room to spread her branches. She gets 12 to 15' tall and wide for me. Might get even bigger for you.
Frannie if you want a cutting give me a yell before you come to Roz's this summer. I bring you some.
Donna...thanks so much! Won't cut!
Carol, you're going to love Donna's Monster and like she says, it grows fast and blooms hearty.
DonnaB, congrats on your 10 year brug!!!! Are there others on this forum that have senior brugs?? I wonder if Donna's is the oldest???
maybe happenstance
I have a Frosty that I keep trying to kill and it keeps coming back. It is well over 10 years. I had a sang that was over 10 years old but I took it down last year. I also have a huge CDW that I got years and years ago. I thought I had tossed all my CDW and then found this one that is hidden in a corner behind a huge Japanese maple. I need to cut it down, it is mite magnet.
Yay kell !
I was out there today....MB still in that "stand back, you don't want this thing to go off by mistake" stance, buds swelling.................OMG, it was terrifying.
I have warned the cats to stay away...don't even THINK about it. And the dogs? Their tails curl under their legs as they run past...no telling what it will do!!!!!
LOL
think the bugs will get skert?
LOL Carol , priceless !
If'n da bugs are skeert of it can you send me some pollen ?
too funny Carol
So pretty! And your dog loves it too! LOL
oh you see my shadow down there lol
Carol, lol, I love your story and hope I have a 'scary' story to tell, just like yours, the brug that ate Dermott Arky!!!
Donna...thanks for the Picture. Now I can give it to the Search Party!!!
Lovely...thanks alot!
AlohaHoya. you have mail *LOL*
