Been Looking up infor in the American Brug database:
I found Butterfly, Dr. Seuss, Isabella, Ollie and Whiskers
I didnt find info on Cypress Gardens, Jean Pasko,Kyles Pink or Tropical Sunset.
Can anyone give me an comments on any of these brugs. What you like or dont like about any of them?
Researching brugs in database
First, what might be bad for me doesn't mean it will be the same for you. I found Cypress Gardens to be a great bloomer, but short to start with and blooms hanging in the dirt. At the second or third bloom flush, it was tall enough to do well. I've had this one twice and it happened both times. Jean Pasko is pretty and was found in the wild, I believe. It is a suaveolens type with yellow/orange rimmed flowers and she produces lots of white offspring. Tropical Sunset is very nice for some, but for me it didn't get the orange rim around it and it didn't bloom heavy. The calyx was huge and puffy and the blooms were big. They melted in the heat. I've not had Kyle's Pink, but I've heard it is a really good bloomer.
Thank you Brugie. I realize that brugs can vary in color due to soil, growing conditions but I am somewhat suprised that the T.S. didnt get the ring for you.
Me too. It did get the ring for Bob though, if I remember right. Maybe it had something to do with having it growing in ProMix instead of the ground. I just know I was quite disappointed.
O.K. Lets find Bob and see what he did. :)
Butterfly has always done great for me. It was blooming last week in the garden, had great color.
Whiskers is a beauty but so finicky to grow. Mine is "hanging on".
I don't have Cypress Gardens any more, best I can remember it was not a good bloomer and it's flowers turned brown almost as soon as they opened, especially if it was hot.
Jean Pasko is gone too, was susceptible to every blight that came along.
Tropical Sunset gets the ring sometimes, but isn't a heavy bloomer like JP.
Ollie was just another white to me, I had plenty of those, lol, so I didn't bring it with me.
Kyles Pink bloomed good but I accidentally let it freeze. I couldn't tell it from Ecuador Pink even when they were side by side and both loaded with blooms.
So you prefer Butterfly and Kyles Pink? Very interesting.
My favorites last season were Rosamond and Pink Beauty, they loved it here and if they had been here earlier, I would have had pods out the kazoo because very late in the season, every blossom on both brugs was pollinated. Then, when I chopped them up to put them in the bubbler, they started rooting almost immediately. And, if all that isn't enough, they were NOT bug magnets. In addition, I have two unknown pinks that bloom like holy heck and are big and very fragrant, the blossoms are just beautiful, and one has blossoms that at least half the blooms had 6 points. I'm sure that's nothing, but I thought it was grand!! Good luck!!!
I'm enjoying this thread too...thanks for the info! It helps me try to decide which ones I want to try. (yeah, well at least narrow it down some, LOL) The info really helps, especially when sometimes even the name sounds tempting.

Sherry, I think I had a Rosamond cutting once but it bit the dust or "mush" :)
Are there any good whites, that have good color for a while.
I dont want to keep a bunch that look exactly alike to the untrained eye. I know I love the fragrance of my Dr. Seuss and it bloomed wonderful last year. Frosty Pink also did okay.
Assuming they hang in there. I have at least 1 rooted cutting of Whiskers, Butterfly, Cypress Gardens, Jean Pasko, Isabela and Kyles Pink with a Tropical Sunset on the way. I would like to choose a top 3 of these.
It's very pretty Gretchen.
Gretchen, that is soooo beautiful, I love it - I love white and do not have a single one but with all my seedlings, I'm sure it won't be long...
Charlotteda, I hate that about your Rosamond, I've had the same problem with a few and life is too short to beg them to grow here, so I move on and try to find the easiest ones that do the best...
I guess this is a dumb thought but I am amazed to find that they seem to vary in their ease of growth.
In other words, it seems my dayliles and iris all have similar needs and tendancies no matter what the cultivar/color.
With the brugs, it seems they vary with color depending on alot of factors and between different kinds some are easier to thrive than others. Lordy what alot to think about. So some of you are saying that often an "unnamed" brug might actually be better than a recognized variety ?
I agree with Sherry, I LOVE Rosamond! Eternity is another fav of mine.
I don't have a favorite yet but I love all of the whites. The Monster white is great, and their was one I grew out but do not know if it has a name yet (if anyone knows let me know) but it was called Insignis Pink x Becca Lynn. It was beautiful and full of blooms for me right up till Fall. It got over 10' tall and the fragrance was very strong.
here is a pic of it on it's 2nd day of bloom
