Hello! I received a leaf from a friend and this is what it became! Does anyone know the cultivar? Thanks for your help.
Karen
ID for me?
Oh, Kgirl, it's a stunning flower, but there are so many cultivars! Even if I had one that looked "just like it," I'd be hestiant about trying to ID yours. I have seen something like it on Rob's site (www.robsviolets.com), so you may want to look there.
Every so often, I tell myself I'm just going to stick to named cultivars. And then I spot some lovely little AV at Home Depot that I just have to have, and suddenly I don't care a bit that I don't know its name!
I appreciate your posting the picture, though! I'll bet you'd find people willing to swap for leaves or plantlets of your lovely AV, whether or not you know its name..... :-)
Thanks Critter.....hanging out with the Hoya mavens has given me the bug to name everything!!! It's most definitely an illness! LOL I just love this plant. It really doesn't matter "who" she is when it comes down to it! She is actually much more brightly colored than shows in the pics. Thank you for popping in, I do appreciate it. Do AV growers propagate from leaf starts or seed? Probably both. Thanks again!
Karen
I think AVs are one of those things that can have pretty random results from seed, which is not altogether a bad thing! Mostly, propagation is done by leaf. There are a few "chimera" varieties that won't come true from a leaf, so propagation must by via suckers. That's why Rob's chimeras are more expensive than the other varieties!
Ah, interesting. Thanks again! :~D
