OK. I realize I may be asking for too much :)
I would like a brug that has 2 colors. I dont know the correct terminology but one that has one main color in the blossom and maybe ringed with another color. Like frosty pink but more noticeable. Does anyone have one to share?
:)
special brug cutting wanted with 2 colors
if they do I am standing in line next to you :)
Where have you seen this???
Do you mean like Jean Psko? It blooms yellow with a red/orange bottom.
I have a rooted Jean Pasko cutting but of course it hasnt bloomed yet.
I'm thinking of pics I've seen like Insignas Coral, though of course not necessarily that one.
As I stated, I realize I may be asking for something that is unusual or rare but I didnt know.
:)
i am in line for these too. i love the one someone posted here that was pink and white together.
Well, just call me a LINE STARTER ! :)
My Jean Pasko just bloomed for the first time this past week. I never even noticed her color except that it was vibrant. I will have to go look more closely.
Did we see one from the Valentine's thread with Halo Peach? I think it was started by thinkdirt.
That is a beauty..... and so is the Tropical Sunset that Kell posted not long afterward.
I like that "ringed effect" too, wish I had some to share with you!
Jackie
Tropical Sunset, for me, never had nearly as much color as Kell's did. I think there can be a lot of difference due to climate. I'd have thought I'd died and gone to heaven to have the depth of color in that picture. Mine never had a darker rim. It was just yellow, large blooms, and not very many of them. After two years, mine went home with Root. He had better luck with it that I did.
Like Isabella or Pink Favorite?
I think I have a rooted cutting names Isabella, or supposedly so as I havent seen it bloom. I just wanted one that was different and not a solid color. I'm not an expert like you folks. I would like to have just a few kinds that were easy to tell about. In other words, the Dr. Seuss Charles Grimadi debate makes me have to think too hard :)
I'm probably wanting something difficult to get. Mama always said I have champagne tastes on a budweiser budget ;)
charlotte
Hey, I sorta kinda know what you mean,,,,if you are looking for a head-spinner, check out the Hetty Krauss/ or Rapture thing. I gave up..... LOL
Now you've done it. I had to go look :)
The Hetty Krauss is beautiful.
However, the Rapture is breathtaking and I LOVE the tropical sunset.
Anyone want to share a cutting of those two LOL :)
I'll trade a goat.... No just kidding. I wouldnt trade my best goat for anything, she needs me as she is too aggravating for anyone else to put up with . :)
charlotte
there was a halo peach posted here a while back, it was quite stunning, two colors on one bloom, I have one, b ut it 's way too tiny now.
there are quite a few brugs out there that are multiple colored blooms, one color inside and another on the rim of the bloom so to s peak, but some are more noticable than others. I too like the frosty pink.
kathy
some start out two colors but, don't stay that way. Look for a picture of brazilan #33 now that's two color's
If you can grow the B. sanguinea or B. vulcanicola ones, they are often multi-colored. Some online nurseries have those for sale.
That is very pretty thinkdirt. What is it?
I hate to burst your bubbles, but Hetty Krause, Dr. Seuss and Rapture are all different names for the SAME brug.
Jean Pasko is one of the most gorgeous brugs I've grown. For me it was bright yellow with an orange rim. I would say that 90% of my colored Suaveolens were two-toned -- white throated with a colored rim... Also, I grow Isabella, Frosty Pink, Insignis Coral, a deep pink un-named suave, and a pale pink. They all bloomed at the same time, and it is not always easy to tell them apart. There are subtle little differences, but from a distance you'd just say they were all "Frosties" LOL! Hope this is helpful! Here's some pix of JP taken last November:
I read about the history of Dr. Suess, I think it was on the ABADS site, but I am still a little confused why the name was "allowed" to change.
Gretchen, I really love your photos!... and I did get a small rooted cutting of Jean Pasko once I saw your photo and read your description on the previous thread.... I was hooked once again.
You are all enablers, I tell you, but I'm greatful for that!! LOL
That's the picture of Halo Peach that I remember thinkdirt posting not too long ago. The two-tone effect is really nice.
Jackie
Thank you Jackie and Vi! Vi: She's a beauty!
Jackie -- I have no idea why the name changed from Hetty Krause. I personally like that name better. I'm not into masculine names for such feminine flowers... As for my collage of Jean Pasko, those were cool weather photos. In the heat of the summer, the color is much more vibrant. I hope you enjoy yours, and I sure hope it is JP. I saw some photos last spring of someone's JP that was really not one, but a similar color. It has an umistakeable, distinct shape. You really should love it!
Gretchen ~ I hope it is too....now I have to keep it alive long enough to bloom ++++sigh++++
Its only about 4 inches, but seems to be the harder wood witha cute little shoot coming out of her head.
I'm with you (although I love the author Dr.Suess - gotta love the Grinch) I like Hetty Krauss as a name better since we already have Mr. Grimaldi (some sort of relative to Suess, I think. Am I learning? LOL) Very pretty name, and maybe she was sad when they changed it? **smile**
Viola ~ Why do you guys keep doing this to me??? That is another stunner... I guess I have a thing for the orangey ones, especially the two-toners. Must be because, now this is a true story, at the delicate age of 10, I asked my mom to paint my bedroom sunshine yellow. Picture this, I come home from school to find orange, I swear, on the walls with white trim. The best part of all is that my carpet was a sort of forest green. Yes, I spent the next 8 years living in my own little pumpkin patch. There's my mom trying to console me..."oh, but the swatch at the paint store was so pretty!"
CC was right, and Kell and Shirley and everybody else....at this pace I'm going to be asking myself when I need to downsize on the brugs LOL.
I dream of being able to add photos like these.
Gee, sorry Jackie, I was really showing off the 3-tone, lol!
I think I remember Kyle (Eclipse) posted about the Hetty/Dr story long, long ago. I love those old threads where our old bruggers ;~} learned about brugs for the first time. It's fun to click on a name and go way, way back!
Vi
Thanks Vi, I love the research...I'm going to check this out.
Yup, that baby is at least three-tone! LOL
Jackie
I love my Versi Peach too, WillowWasp! It was my hubby's fav and wow, did it ever smell good. Hope it makes it through the winter, but i understand they aren't crazy about cold weather, so it's pretty iffy...once it started blooming, and it was very small when I got it, the VP bloomed all summer and fall...
Dee ~ this is positively elegant!
I love the fact that each brug and it's blooms seem to have distinct, unique personalities.
Just gorgeous!
Jackie
I have one sorta like that............dont' remember what it was called. And now I can't seem to find the picture..........
Well, that shows what I know :) NOT. I looked at the pics in the brug gallery and the Hetty K and Rapture looked different colors.
I do have a cutting of Jean Pasko. Maybe I can get it to bloom. So now I need to look for versi peach ? I love good fragrance.
Charlotte -- Dr. Seuss, aka Hetty Krause and Rapture can bloom in different colors from Cream to deep orange depending on environmental culture, i.e. time of year, daytime and nighttime temps, etc. That really applies to most if not all brugs. I believe the warmer the temps, and longer the days, the deeper the color.
And, Jackie...I believe that Charles Grimaldi is the result of a cross between Frosty Pink (Mama) and Dr. Seuss (Papa).
Thinksdirt -- your Halo Peach is very pretty. Many of the pinks start out yellow. Its so fun to watch them transform!
Dee -- your Versi is gorgeous! I sure do love it!
Thank you. I do have Dr. Seuss, I love the fragrance.
