I have some daff clumps that are small and pitifuldue to need to divide. I know that normally we plant these bulbs in the fall. However, if I wait until fall to divide-I wont be able to find them and they wont grow this summer. Can I move them after bloom and leave the green leaves in intact.
:)
thanks charlotteda
dividing daffs
i have you just lose a year bloom
The past 2 years I have moved some, after they finished blooming, and they did fine. The foliage stayed kind of droopy, but stayed green and they came up and bloomed the next year.
Thanks guys, I will try to move them after bloom. They look so pitiful its worth a try :)
Hi Charlotteda, I dug up a huge bed of daffs last early summer after bloom but before they dried up so much that I wouldn't be able to find them again. I dried all the bulbs out and bagged them in bags of 50, and this fall, replanted them all. I sure hope they all come back up!
This is the time I always move my daffs because the foliage makes them easy to keep track off. Just replant immediately and water well to settle the soil around the roots.

Thanks..when I can bend again ( I been working outside all day today :) ). I will look into this idea !
Charlotte,
I dug up and divided mine this past January- remember when the weather was so unseasonably warm? The green foliage was already up, so it made it easy to find them. They are all doing well and blooming now.
Good luck!!!
Help! I bought lots of tulip and daffodil bulbs last fall and did not get them into the ground. What happens if I plant them now? I have kept them cold, so I think they are still good. I understand that they will not bloom this year, but can I enjoy them next year?

Starshine,
I think it will be OK to plant them now. Just toss any that feel squishy or rotten.
They should bloom for you next year. Good luck!!
These bulbs will go through their growing cycle, which means that some of them will throw a flower. The plants will be stunned somewhat because of the short growing cycle and some flowers, mainly in the tulips will not be there but a little black dot on top of the stem. Daffodils will be OK for next year. Tulips I am not sure will do that well.
Charlotte,
If you want to be safe you can always dig them up and move them after the foliage has yellowed but before you remove it. That way you can still locate the bulbs but you can feel safe that the bulb has been "recharged" for the following year's bloom. I would not move them if the leaves are still green.
