Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

oooh, me too please!

There are so many species & varieties of dianthus.... I know this is a mix, but do you have any idea what's in it in terms of whether the seed should be winter sown, direct sown after frost, etc?

Thanks!

(Zone 7a)

I have never winter sown any dianthus. They are very easy to germinate..and usually will within a couple days.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Can I direct sow them after last frost? I'm asking because my planned starts have already taken up the space under the lights....

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

ME TOO!!

SASE went out today, Kim.

Just butting in here... can't remember what kind they are. If it's Clinic Pinks, they are hardy perennials and can be winter sown, started under lights, or thrown out the back door... very tough and very hardy. I've got some they sowed themselves in my gravel driveway. If it is deltoides, they're a little fussier, but perennials. If they're tiny during the heat of summer, give them some protection.

As for Sweet Williams, they are biennials and probably won't bloom and set seed until next year anyway. Put those in a bed where they can self-seed. They'll bloom the second year, spread seed, then croak. The new plants will bloom the second year. Eventually, they should establish themselves if you don't go digging around too early in the spring... just butting back out... good work, Kim!
