Hello~
I have German Chamomile, Organic from Seeds of Change. Can add it to your package...

German Chamomile - pack
Matricaria recutita
Medicinal
18-30 in. Tender Perennial/Hardy Perennial

A delight for your eyes, taste buds and overall well being. Used medicinally for hundreds of years. The flower buds when dried make a tea that promotes digestion and calms nerves and stomachs. It is delicately scented and as a companion plant, it can enhance the growth of cucumbers, onions and most other herbs. Start plants indoors 3-4 weeks before last frost date. Sow seeds on soil surface and keep moist. To make tea, pick when buds are about to open, or flowers are at their peak of bloom, and dry for a wonderful drink.
Planting Depth: Surface
Soil Temp. for Germ.: 55-60°F
Days to Germ.: 4-8<
Plant Spacing: 4-6"
Days to Maturity: 70-80
Full Sun
Moderate Water
Pack weight .010gms
~ 160 seeds

Hi Robin, are yours German too! Doesn't that description just sound delicious? I can't wait to get mine started, this will be my first year to grow them.
Didn't mean to hijack your thread, James ;-)

So guess you have to choose between us, huh? LOL

Just give us what we want and we will leave quietly.......................

Joseph, OR(Zone 5a)

Ok Robin,
Send me a list of what you've got to trade and if I don't find anything, I'll do a SASBE for you. And Tamara, I'll take your Chamomile since we're already trading. Sound good?????!! I think I can settle this score quite evenly LOL!

Busybee,
Ha ha! That name reminds me of the dog toy in "Best In Show." So funny! Anyway, I am all set with the vine, but thank you so much for the offer!

Good day!

TamaraFaye, you don't have to try and sneak away ~~~~~*
Have you looked in the seeds' packet lately?

They are quite tiny seeds there.
What you have in the packet, is the equalvalent of one, maybe to 1&1/2 seeded heads.
Yes they smell very lovely, but so does coffee. Have you ever tried chewing on a Chamomile seed head? Hhhmmmm..... COugh Cough! Yuggy. Needs some sugar, stevia or honey in there thats for sure! It's one of those bitter herbs that was often served with honey.

You'll need quite a sizeable plot to grow it if you need to grow it for tea! As the heads mature clip them off to encourage more seed heads. You can tell when they get mature, the yellow starts to turn a different color, and the white petals start to fall off. Yes they can be invasive..... LOL! So make sure you take your small scissors out there with a brown paper bag to let the seed heads fall into as you clip them off.

...what me sneak>? Youare the one posting on a closed thread LOL

Very good info thanks. Don't know how much trouble I will go to to dry the leaves, but I am willing to give it a try.

I am mostly looking forward to the lovely flowers for attracting beneficials and pollinators to my gardens. Is there any use for the seed? Besides trading of course...

Is it difficult to start from seed? I started some creeping thyme a month ago and so far have nothing. Perhaps the seed was not fresh, time to start again.

Thanks, Robin, keep sending tips my way, esp regarding herbs, I am brand new to them...

BTW.... You don't use the leaves to make the tea; you use the seed heads!

Since I'm doing it on this property for the first time....

First I'll pick the spot where I want them to grow at... bright & sunny, but out of the way of traffic (human or otherwise.) Rake it so it is even and soft. Then I will go inside and do this:

I will take a 2 ply sheet of toilet paper (white only); open it up and mist it ever so lightly with water. Gently sprinkle with a few seeds; and mist again. I put the other sheet back on top; then I mist the whole thing again right before I go outside with them because I take some fresh soil out with me in a plastic container to cover them up with very lightly.
(You can use a paper or styrofoam plate to carry them on with another plate on top.)
After that I mist the soil again on top. Sounds like a lot of trouble right? Well they can be gone with the wind before you know it! And heavy watering can make them flush away.
Otherwise they could sprout up in the neighbors' yard.....LOL!
I do this about 7 times to make sure I get them planted Where I want them to grow.
After that It's just water & watch grow.... and clip.

You're in a warmer climate.... I got all these hits on the words: 'creeping thyme' at Dave's,12 exact matches: http://davesgarden.com/pf/search.php?search_text=creeping+thyme&submit=Search
Are your seeds one of them? If so; then check the info there on how long it takes for them to germinate.

Were they from a trade?

~* Robin

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

Yes, they were from a trade...

Can I start the Chamomile indoors?

Are the leaves good for ANYTHING???

Should we rename the thread we hijacked?

:-B

New York & Terrell, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes you most certainly can start Chamomile indoors.
Only I find it more difficult because sometimes they get problems from handling them.

1 tray, 1" of soil, sprinkle seeds on top of soil... mist.
Pluck them out of the soil when they get big enough to handle with an eating fork.
Put into larger pots 3 or 4" sized till ready to go outside.

If you want to try them in the plug size starters, then try 4 to 6 seeds per plug.

When you plant inside; keep them warm with plenty of light, cover with clear plastic; like food wrap.
They need to stay a tad moist and require light to germinate.

The leaves will only be at the bottom of the plant, they look too thin and spindly.... ; ^ (

Ummmm.... How 'bout..... Chamomile Seeds Run?
