Looking for seeds for dwarf flowers!

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I am doing several 3-tiered planters this summer, each holding 50-70 plants. Each tier is 6" tall. I'm going to do each planter differently, but I'd like to keep one of them compact. I'm looking for viney or droopy flowers/greens for the bottom tier, short flowers for the second tier, and maybe root veggies (of which I have many) with their wild greens for the top. I'm thinking maybe silver mound, coleus, and dwarf grasses would be nice for the bottom, then dwarf marigolds, zinneas, asters, ??? in the middle.

I will send a trade list via e-mail upon request.

Knew I'd get you sooner or later! I have a creeping daisy, and a Shasta Daisy Silver Princess that says dwarf variety height 12", and snapdragon vine that would work in the bottom tier?

wow are you going to town.. mercy sounds so marvelous though...hi, happy week ahead...i have some new pansy seeds faces- lavender or mixed..

Terre - I think the Shasta Daisy Silver Princess are still going to be too tall for the middle tier. I'm thinking anything over 9" will interfere with the top tier.

I've never even heard of creeping daisy - ever tried it???

And I am a TOTAL SNAPDRAGON FREAK! I love those little guys - any size or shape! Do you think I could scatter a bunch of "creeps" in the bottom tier and just let them have at it???

No, I haven't tried the creeping daisy. Found seed packets on sale and it sounded really neat, and I love daisys. They are just so cheerful. The seed packet is from American Seed, and says on it:

"This unique and charming variety produces miniature 1 1/4" white daisies with yellow centers on compact, mat-forming foliage. The low growing plants mature to only 6-8 inches tall and are free flowering throughout the summer. Ideal for beds, borders, containers, windowboxes and hanging baskets. "

I had great luck with the snapdragon vine last year. Planted it in one spot in lousy soil and full sun and it clumb the 4 ft chain link and spread over several feet. Planted it under the pines, full shade and acidic soil, and it didn't do quite as well, but still made the top of the fence with a nice spread. Very dependable and one of the last to succumb to the weather last fall.

I have mixed viola,Petunia "Raspberry Frost" ( this is a milliflora petunia-needs no pinching and stays very dwarf and compact) and a few seeds of Anagallis monellii(blue pimpernel)which grows to about 9'' and is electric blue. Need any?

Sequee, did your pygmy delphiniums ever germinate? I am having terrible germination with them, and I know I traded with you for some veggie seeds,so I feel bad. I have some "Blue Butterfly" delphs that are also dwarf (12-18")that I have acquired since then if you would like some. Just let me know.

It's still about a month early for me to be germinating delphs. Right now I'm trying to tackle some of the seeds I have that require LONG germination periods - it's really all so c'fusing!!!
