Chili - a recipe I could never duplicate
After breakfast of Toll House Cookies and coffee, I asked Bob what he wanted me to cook for lunch. He responded Chili fix the same way as a couple of weeks ago. I was Belly Laughing ....
First I opened what I thought was S&W brand baked beans but it turned out to chili fixin', so I made chili. It wasn't highly seasoned so I kept "adding" to it and Bob kept tasting and pronouncing it to be "bean soup". Finally, I told him the yarddogs would like it.
A few hours later the aroma of burnt Chili assailed my nostrils and rushing downstairs I found he had already turned off the fire, he forgot about, but there was a thick layer of scorched chili at the bottom of the pan. I advised against stirring too deeply. Limited space in the refrigerator and it being 30 degrees outside, resulted in Bob sitting the pan on the baker's rack outside the backdoor.
That night the low was 16, so the chili was frozen solid when he brought it in for lunch the next day. It thawed and he "stirred deeply". With the first bite he declared it was the "best chili ever".
Now he wants me to fix him another pot exactly like that one, I don't think so.....
