too late to plant tulips?

Nevada, IA(Zone 5a)

I bought way too many tulips last fall and didn't get them all in the ground. I've got a few bags of tulips that have been sitting in my unheated garage all winter unplanted that I was going to throw away because I figured they weren't any good anymore since they didn't get planted. Is there any hope for them if I tossed them into a couple of pots?

Geez--it is pretty late...I'm thinking about this...how cold is it there now?

I think tulips need around 12-14 weeks of cold, don't they? ... I'll be watching for an expert's answer on this one.

Could depend on just how cold it got in your garage I suppose. Heck plant 'em, they either grow or they don't.
But what do I know......hopefully an actual bulb expert will be by shortly.

I'm with Marc. Either they will grow or they won't. You may only get greenery this year. But what the heck, I'd give it a shot.

As long as it has been cold in your garage, anywhere from freezing up to 40 degrees F, they have gotten some kind of cold treatment, so this would help them. Can you plant them outside already? If the ground is still frozen, I would plant them in pots soon, like this weekend. Give them a good drink of water and keep an eye out for the moisture.

Ok, what the heck. Can't hurt, right? Even if I get only some leaves, it gives me some time to get 'em moved somewhere else for next year I guess. If nothing comes up at all, well I guess I didn't lose anything as I was going to toss 'em in the trash anyway! lol Thanks guys!
