When Do I Sow These Outdoors??? (Zone 6b)

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I have tried to find this info myself online and it's taking forever....and with the search down at DG I'm having a harder time.....

Could anyone tell me when I should sow these seeds outdoors in zone 6b??? They will be in full sun and in containers.

Poppy mix (papaver)
Morning Glory
fennel
parsley
dill
asclepias

Also, if there's a good website for sowing schedules, would you please post it???

Thanks!!!
Hugs :)

The last frost date for my area (in 6a - Pittsburgh) is considered to be May 15th. Usually you should wait until there is no longer a danger of frost, but if you are one to tempt fate, as I am... Well, I am going to start sowing some portions of my seed outdoors in about a month.

With all of these seeds (with exception of the dill, parsely and fennel b/c I just don't know about them) you should sow them out now! So they can get as much cold as possible. Unless youy asclepias is tropical... is this the one I'm sending you? It'll be a perennial and shoud be cold treated, hence sown out asap.

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Yep, Michelle, I'm asking about the asclepias from you ;) I'll get the postage out by week's end (Lord willing and the creek don't rise -- LOL). I thought as much, especially on the poppies. Okay..I have those and can sow those this week. The container is ready for your seeds, so if I can just get on the ball and get your $ out, I'll be in business :) Thanks!

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

NOOOO POSTAGE!!! Remember? They're a gift! I just need your sending info!

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh, oops :)

Well then what are you waiting for?!!! LOL - just kidding :) My address is in the exchange, under the "extras" tab.

Thanks again :) I'll post pics when they start to come up ;)

Is there anything else that you can direct sow now?
Thanks,
Alice

A lot of things, some annuals, perennials, biennuals.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I will start mine at the end of March, we are still getting snow

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I thought morning glories were supposed to be sowed in spring rather than when it's cold, but maybe I'm wrong? I'm in zone 6b.

I've always sowed dill & parsley after last frost, but my mom had dill come up in the same spot for years (self-sowing), which says winter sowing should work fine too.

CRITTER,
MG seeds can be planted in cold weather. This helps with stratification/scarification. You know how the directions for MG seeds always say soak the seeds in water for 24 hrs or scratch the seed surface before planting them? When you direct sow in Fall/Winter this process occurs naturally.
I try to Fall sow all my seeds this way. This is what happens in nature anyway and it seems to have been working for her a long time- LOL!!

IMO we make things harder than we have to sometimes when it comes to gardening techniques.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, berry! I'll get those MG seeds you sent me planted right away! :-)

This is my first year for really trying any winter sowing techniques, but I'm learning!

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Me too! I have soooooo many seeds out there, I know it's gotta be well over 50 types! And I'm not even half finished!
