hoyas until I saw this beautiful leaf one at walmart.
It is a very large heart-shaped variegated leaf-it is rooted.
Now,I have learned it will never make a plant-this is very up setting.
Why would they (walmart) sell these beautiful leaves-knowing people would buy them & never have a plant from them. This is such a bomber.
Never got into
I bought some as well thinking that they would someday make a vine. I have since found out that they may or may not make one. Chances are from what i've read, they won't.
If you look at the tag that came in the little planter, there is a name on it. No web addy but I did an online search for the name that was on the tag and came up with a place out of N.C. . Threw my tags out so can't remember the name of the company but my guess would be that they know these plants will not make a vine but sell them anyway. I wouldn't blame wal-mart because they don't have a horticulturist who works there that knows about these things. They just accept whatever comes in on their trucks .
Now that I am thinking about it I do recall reading on the back of the box it said that these leaves would make a vine. So either the propogator knows something that we don't or they are telling a little white lie about it to make money.
cats,I think you are right-the people in N.C. knows something but will it be or not be a plant that is the question.I think we may smell a rat here but we will keep our fingers cross. Can anyone tell us if you have ever gotten a plant from a leaf rooting?
I know it is possible...but I have NEVER been successful. Leslie has....
Patience....is the key word here!
I'm doing a science experiment right now to find out. I started 2 leaves last week, one in water, the other with rooting hormone in soil. They are in the same place and after they root and are potted, I will keep everything the same (water, fertilizer, light, temps, etc...). As Awanda said, time will tell. I will keep you all posted if and when somethig happens!
Karen
Karen, please do keep us posted on your experiments.
Will do....with pics even! I'll post it as "the science experiment" in the hoya forum whenever (if ever?) something relevant happens.
Karen :~D
Pictures-that's great.
I just hope I don't miss your post.
You won't....perhaps I'll start it with the "beginning" pic of the two as they are now, then update every once in a while. Anyone interested can "watch" the thread and will get an automatic update whenever there is a post. After all, what good is a science experiment unless we can all watch together to see what happens? These leaves had better behave....they have an audience!

:~D
Will be on the look out & hope your leaves will behave :)
I sure hope you will get plants from your leaf cuttings.
Sitting here with fingers cross.
Thanks! If not, I'll just pot them up with rooted vines of same, that way if they decide to join the party one day...great! I'll take a pic of them sometime this weekend, watch for the "in the beginning...." post early next week!
