Beautiful!

That's an excellent picture Kell! I sure love the color. They look as if they are all crowding each other to get into the picture. Thanks for sharing that pic. made my morning. It's 22 degrees outside and not a cloud in the sky. I'm certain the cold the past couple of nights has killed what was trying to come up. Oh dear where is Spring????

Whoa, this is from a while back. I was so shocked to see it just now. I thought I was in bigger trouble than I knew...........having posted this today and then totally forgetting I did it. LOL.

This is Big Yella who often was Big Orange. LOL. . And how odd Melissa bumped it up just now. I hate to say this but Tom cut this brug down last weekend. It was HUGE. Took up way too much room. Made me sad because it was in constant flower. But...........after saying I was going too for 2 years, I finally did it. I have been getting more into other kinds of plants lately and I wanted the space to do a tropical bed.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

LOL! Yep, hard to do but when we have these small CA yards, somethings gotta give to make room for new addictons. I moved out roses and daylilies. :-(

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, I did. It is so odd not to see it anymore, it was a dominating plant in my backyard. I cleaned out a bunch of my first ever seedlings also. I wish my yard was as big as my plant inventory!!

Here is Big Yella last year on Nov. 4th

Brigitte

Gosh, I almost thought I had freezing weather I didn't know about!! LOL
Ah Ha..
I knew I saw a picture here once that inspired me to try the same type of photo. It was you Kell. I should have known it was you. Of course mine has no where near the great color as yours does. !!

So sorry it's in brug heaven. But at least you have room for new plants. Tom must have enjoyed cutting it down.LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Now that I am seeing this pic every time I come to the brug forum I have to admit I am saying to myself WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! I now remember how orange it could get. I loved it.

But the truth is, the huge bushes of them are just so messy. They always have dead flowers on them. On the standards unless they are way too tall, I can keep them tidy. I only loved it when it first bloomed and was covered in new flowers, soon the new blossoms would be interspersed with dead ones and it would ruin it for me. It was so huge there was no way I could keep it groomed. I couldn't even reach most of it.

I have a Butterfly and a Rosamond at home that have grown so tall that even on a ladder I can't reach all the yellowing leaves and old flowers. So I never take their picture. The look is just so unappealing. I go out with one of those grabbers you can use to pick things up off the floor and they work great. But it only gives you a few more feet of reach.

I think I am going to take them down also in spring. The Rosamond has a huge trunk. Tom will hate getting that one out where it is.

Brigette, only a few daylilies, I still have almost 200, most in pots right now. I need more land so I can have theme rooms and beds, a tropical one, a daylily one, a cottage garden one, a rose one, a mediterranean one, a vege/herb one, etc. etc. Hope to get some land when DH retires in 4 yrs.

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

It is tough when they get so tall. When I moved mine to the GH at least they were all in pots & I just leaned them over to groom them & spray for bugs. Wish it was that easy when they are outside!

So....did you save any cuttings of Big Yellow? To share?

What a picture that was.
LAst year I could never have understood your chopping it down, but now I can understand what an abundance of Brugs can mean. It is very hard to say goodbye to a garden full, but I sure won't be able to overwinter the ones in the ground.

Syracuse, NY

Kell impressive really enjoy your pictures here in syracuse,n.y we have had ten straight days of cloudy weather and rain that brighten my day up. my brugs with a short growing season do not get that big so nice to see what their potential can be keep up the good work. Bob
