I'm waiting on ID for these, but i think this one is Early Pearl
More heirloom daffs
Beautiful daffodils Jen.
They're very pretty. I keep thinking I should get some of the fancy ones, all I have is lots of the common yellow ones that I got years ago for 5 cents each, planted about 5 in a group and they have now multiplied into large groups. My neighbor needs some of these and then I could replace them, good thinking, huh?
Jen,.
Those are very nice - especially like the Campernelles. Thanks for sharing.
I only have 2 small clumps of the yellow, wish i had more. I'm still waiting to get a positive id.
I have quite a few heirloom ones, but never had them identified. Now in the day of digital its too easy to take a pic and send it off.
I've got this really cool double about to bloom, actually doesnt even look like a daff, at first i thought it was van sion, but i'm not sure. i'll post that one as soon as it blooms.
Campernelle was a positive ID. The white was tentatively ID'd as Grand Primo. I'm not sure the center color is right tho.
hi jen--thanks for posting the pics...very lovely little flowers.
was wondering where you purchased or found the heirloom daffs?
I know there are suppliers' sites on the internet, but thought maybe yours were 'pass alongs' or found on your property...
I found these links from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, and Old House Gardens with lots of good information about heirlooms that others might find helpful:

I am definitely going to order some for next year! I wonder if an "heirloom bulb" co-op would be of interest to DGers?
thanks for posting. t.
tabasco,
thanks for the compliments.
the ones growing here have been on the property for years. We moved here when i was about 7 or so (i'm 36 now) and i can remember them as a child. We used to make daffodil necklaces with the flowers, but there dont seem to be as many now as there were then.
its just been in the last year or so that i've started id'ing them. some i have an abundance of, others not so many.
i'm not sure if a co-op would work because alot of the heirlooms are in limited supply and our co-op could wipe out the entire seasons offerings, lol.
i am always up for trading them tho ; )
How interesting that you have had them on your property since you were little...
I hope you will get pics of all of them and post them somewhere on DG. I would like to see them in their habitat, too.
Yes, because of the limited supply it might be difficult to get a supplier, but I will check around...
after I saw your postings, I read a little about the heirloom bulbs (on the links above) and how important it is to conserve and propagate them. It might be a nice thing even to offer a few of the more common ones to raise awareness of the heirlooms to other DGers...
Again, thanks for the pics. t.
For anybody out there who is interested---Here's an e-mail address to sign up for the Old House Gardens Newletter about heirloom bulbs... newsletter@oldhousegardens.com
Jen, I was just going thru the Plan Files for narcissus and noticed there is no pic for yours, so please don't forget to enter yours.

I don't really know how to post in PF but I'm sure someone can advise you if you don't either. t.
thats weird because i know i submitted one for campernelle and also for minor monarque.
i havent yet for the other one. It was id'd by OHG as Grand Primo, but i havent listed it yet.
oh, I guess I was looking for early pearl--I know minor marque is in there...

i've always been hesitant to add entries in to the database because i may know what they are, daffs, etc...but when it starts getting in to species, common name, genus, etc..i get lost.
i'm going to go with what ohg said and list it as grand primo, just have to figure out what all the others headings will be.
jen
p.s. thanks for reminding me to put it in there. did you see campernelle listed?
You have some awesome daffs, lady. I love them.
Jen, those last two are expecially interesting--did you find those in your yard ages ago, too, or have you planted those? Did your mom plant daffs in your garden? very exotic that first one--
You got me so interested in these I stayed up late with my bulb catalogs searching thru for heirloom daffs...I noticed that a lot of Southern states seem to have 'found' heirlooms in old gardens...you are very lucky! t.
I think they were all here when we moved here. The house on the property was about 75 years old. Mom did garden, but i dont remember her planting bulbs....except tulips and those of course don't do well down here. I think she was trying to bring a part of nebraska with her.
The last yellow one i planted is small, flower size is about a penny..
I have plenty of the grand primo i can divide up to those that are interested in preserving the species. I also found another clump of the campernelles, but i'm not sure how many are there.
Jen
MsJen--found this Historic House and Daffodil Garden Tour in Mount Lebanon, Louisiana, March 5, that may be of interest to you and others lucky enough to be in the area...

Sounds like a nice day out... (of course, I have no idea if Mount Lebanon is close to where you are... t.
