Propigating hoyas

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

We are moving to a new home and while I was moving all of my hoyas, some of the leaves came off. Can I use these to start new plants or do I just throw them away. I tried to look this up by doing a search, but the search engine on DG is still not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello JesseK,
Check out the thread on Hoyas at Wal-Mart. Your leaves will root up quickly, but, the jury is still out on the plant putting out a vine!

This is where I found out the info about the rooted hoya leaves that I found at wal-mart. Since reading this I have given up hope of getting a vine from my leaves, so I went on ebay and bought both varieties of H. Kerrii and at a rather reasonable price too.

Jessek,
When the page opens scrool down to propogation and the last paragraph tells about rooting leaves.

Thank you for answering my questions. I have several hoyas already and I can't wait for one of them to bloom. I found a little hoya at Lowe's so I don't think that I will mess with the leaves. Thanks again.

Some leave root and send out vines, I don't believe the H. kerri will. I have never seen it do so, even in the very best conditions. Jesse, if you want them to flower try a little Eleanor's VF 11, that may help. At least fertilize them with the product Bloom. Give them a lot of humidity, and certain species need more sun than others to produce flowers. Some needed it cooler to produce the flowers, each are different. So find out what you have and search out where the plant came from, that will give you clues to how it grows in nature. Most need greenhouse conditiions to do well, Norma
