Norton "Ghost"

I have a Lacie external harddrive which I have not partitioned or used yet. If I purchase Norton's "Ghost" can I put the 25 gygbites of information on this computer on the external drive, in case this one crashes? The Lacie is 80 gygbts.
I regularly backup photos on CD's and can get them to work. but have some other programs I like that I would hate to lose like Photoshop 9 and the Abode Photoshop 7.

I know I can reinstall them through the CD's, but I usually have to get outside help to put programs in the computer. ( It's an age related thing)

Has anyone used Norton "Ghost"? Is it easy to use? Any help would be appreciated.
