Bebe Brugmansia

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm getting organized for spring planting, and I would love to find the brug Bebe (either seed, cutting or plant.)
My user name comes from the daily greeting that I used to give my cat, Bebe. He was always the first of my kitties to greet me in the morning or when I came home, and I always responded with "Hello Bebe!"
I miss him, he's been gone now for over two years, and although I have other delightful cats, he will always be extra special to me. I would like to grow this brug for him (he was a definite chewer when it came to my indoor plants!)
I would appreciate any leads as to where I can buy Bebe for Bebe. Thanks ~ Jackie

Nobody seems to be answering........maybe because we have never heard of Bebe? Please tell us where you have........

Hi Hellobebe, I wish I could help you but I have no clue as where to get this one :(

Hibiscus, Bebe is a Rosamond hybrid http://www.americanbrugmansia-daturasociety.org/Copy_of_BeBe.jpg

I have never heard of it either. Hellobebe, my I suggest after looking at the picture of BEBE that you should grow some brug seeds yourself. I bet you could get some good crosses from one of us.

Find one of them you love, and you name it HELLO BEBE and register it yourself. It is as hard as that to have a named brug. Of course there are few guidlines we encourage people to go by, but the process is easy and fun.

And if you grow and pick a good brug, lots of us will want it to grow in our yards, and then HELLO BEBE will be all over the country!! I would think that would be a great memorial for your special cat. I have a very special cat also! I am so sorry you lost your Bebe.

Thanks for the feedback! Moonlighting, the link you gave Hibiscus is exactly where I saw Bebe. Kell, I would love to try what you suggest. I read about what you guys have done, and I do feel inspired.
Maybe someone could help me when seeds are available, that would be really awesome.
I am passionate about almost everything that is alive... I think it is such wonder that life has so many amazing and beautiful forms, be them plant or pet. My DH threatens that if I bring one more green thing or animal into this house that I am going to have to take residence on my porch! Everybody brings the strays to "Miss Jackie!" I'm that way with the children in my neighborhood too, as many of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds (I live in a pretty urban area with many cultures.) They hang out here all summer long. Each spring, at least a dozen kids come by and help me plant my front yard with all kinds of seeds.(And I make them work...plant, weed, dig, drop manure! Teehee! It's a blast!) I try to teach them what I have learned about respect for life, including the worms and the bees. I really hope that they continue when they get older.
What is your kitty like? I will try later to post a pic of Bebe (when DH comes home from work ~ he's the digital man in my house.)
Thanks again for the advice! ~ Jackie

Sounds as if you might change some kids minds and they can amount to something. Good for you.

I too, am a plant and animal lover, love cats and I have 4 singing canaries.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

That is awesome! Did you say you have a cat too? If so, do they co-exist peacefully? I bet they make a beautiful sound when they get going. I don't have any birds myself, but I feed them outside and then benefit from the volunteer sunflowers grown from dropped seed. I've adopted multiple cats, 6 fish, two good size dogs, and a husband! LOL I have two boys of my own, and an army of neighborhood children (one afternoon I counted 17 in my yard ~ yikes!) The thing is, I guess I feel the way you said, they see drug dealing and hustling as a norm, so I try to show them another way, without passing judgement on their lives. Anyway, it makes it easier for me to keep an eye on everybody if I put them to work, and then I know what my boys are up to. I want to try and beautify my whole block this year, a little at a time. I'm trying to buy seeds now, a little at a time, to plant all 10 front yards (with the kids.) We'll see how far I get. The brugs, however, are for me!! (my own guilty pleasure!) Jackie

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I had a cat, but 17 yrs. was a little much for her. Had 1/2 (bottom)door to birdroom, they are also in their own enclosure, sliding glass doors, to keep the birdseed in their enclosure, not ours. We feed all the birds outside, yellow and purple finch, redbirds, blackcapped chickadees, etc. etc. Also put steak, primerib, chicken(from eating out)for cats outside, sometimes neighborhood dogs get it.

Hope you find your brug Bebe.

Jackie...love your story and your vision for your neighborhood and it's children.

I would suggest we all check out our seeds and get some to you, so you can continue beautifying the world!!!

If you are looking for cuttings I usually go to Buffalo in May for the show at the Erie Co Fairgrounds, then I usually take off for the botanical garden while they're judging,I think its on South Park

I don't have Bebe(which is so funny cause thats what my husband calls me)but I do have some good ones that I can take some cuttings of by May to give you a start
I also have some seeds....
let me know if your interested

Hello everybody,
Hibiscus, 17 years is a great life for your beauty. I bet you miss her! My oldest is 14, and my youngest ones are each 2. I love the birds too, but I admit when I feed them, I get mostly city birds, like pigeons, seagulls (from the Niagara River,) house wrens, starlings, and the occasional blue jay. I would love to see your assortment. I did, however, once have the privilege to host a peregrine falcon eating his lunch in my yard, and a woodpecker on my front tree.
Picturelady, oh, believe me, I really think that your offer of seeds is so kind. I would be honored to plant anything that was sent my way with the help of my little volunteer army.
I admit it can be overwhelming having so many children follow mw (my friends call me the Pied Piper, ) and I am ready for major rest when school resumes in the fall, but I figure that must be why God has me here. Just tell me what to do, and I'll send postage, cash for seed, whatever you'd like.
Crestedchik ~ Howdy neighbor! I love the botanical garden. I am lucky to be about 20 minutes away. I always come out drooling! I've never checked out the Fairgrounds, what is the show you go to? As for seeds and/or cuttings, yes! Let me know, as I am your brugmansia slave...your wish is my command! LOL! I guess brug addiction is the strongest force in the Universe...I'm learning that fast. :)
Thanks again everyone,
Jackie

It is! LOL. I can still lust after a new one here and there. LOL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Me too. There is so much excitement in a "new" brug/kid on the block!

Jackie
Shhh....
don't tell anyone, but I show crested chickens...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You are such a hot crested chick yourself, CC!! LOL

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Of course I had to check out the crested chickens and I have to say they are among the coolest animals I have ever seen. Good for you! I haven't ever seen them before....how did you start?
Also, will my excitement fade?? From the sounds of the experts, I can't imagine it will. It seems that there is always something to look forward to, and some kind of battle to be won. I truly believe this is a plant that, as I said before, is just like having real children...some pain, some gain, and alot of reward in the long run.
Peace to my new friends ~ Jackie

Jackie
I want to tell you
YES the excitement will fade....

you will get to a point where you say

OK
I have so many
I gotta cut it down to 50 or so.........LOL

And here are some of MY bebe's

Even on a good day, why can't I get my hair to do that? **wink, wink** They are gorgeous birds, and you must be so proud of them. A warm Hello to your Bebes!!
(I'm still waiting for my husband to help me load my Bebe so you can see him too. Maybe if I ask very sweetly.......)

Here he is.....The Bebe!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ohhhh what a sweet cat. I just love cats. He was as lucky to have you as you were to have him! May he rest in peace.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Kell, he was unbelievable. If he didn't like somebody, he would sit at their feet and just stare up at them with this look....like, "ok, it's time for you to go now." Sort of like a watchdog. A character. I love all my cats, and I've had many, probably too many. We've rescued over 35 in the past 15 years here, and adopted most of them out to loving homes. What amazes me is each one has a unique personality. I end up keeping the oddballs, the ones that just don't adjust in other homes. It seems they do just fine here!

But Bebe.......he was my favorite. :)

Bebe was a cutie. Good for you doing the rescue of cats. I have two and I don't know what I would do with out them sometimes. BUT then again there are those times I wanted them gone. LOL They try too be soooo helpful sometimes! Just at the wrong times though.....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)
