Do all brugs do well with afternoon shade or can some stand the heat more than others.? I've got one place (in a barrel) that I would like to put a plant but it will have full all day sun.
Some of my seedlings are: Cyprus Garden, Big Yellow, Whiskers, Jean Pasko, Butterfly, Dr. Seuss.
charlotte
some better in sun
Gee Charlotte, where I am it is rather cool all summer so I do not know. Most of mine are in full sun. I think versis like it warmer and I know sangs and Arborea want it cooler. You can always take cuttings and put them in smaller pots and try them all.
I know there are Texas growers here. I bet they have a great idea of which tolerate the heat and sun better.
Good luck!!
You would probably have the best luck with Dr. Suess in full sun. However, the blooms will probably "melt" during the day and hopefully come back at night. Butterfly might also do well. Do you have an extra beach umbrella? LOL!
I may have an extra umbrella :) but I'll save it to use on myself !
if it is of some help... i live in the upper desert where sun is very intense during the summer months. most of brugs i grow are in full sun. they bloom profusely, but blooms last only a few days, not like in the cooler months where i noticed some stay bloomed for nearly a week.
I have not had good luck with Brugs in full sun. The plants and blooms are always more lush when given some shade during the day. On those hot summer days, they tend to look wilted and tired and they become perfect breeding ground for spider mites. I try to keep them with in reach of the water hose to give them the water they crave as well as to hose the leaves down.
For me, most all brugs blooms will wilt in the summer from noon until the sun is off of them in the early evening. I even have those that will wilt in the shade when temps reach in the 90's, but as the temps drop they revive to their beautiful shape and fragrance.
From my experience, Dr. Seuss will take the all day sun better than anything else that you have listed. I think you just have to try and see what works in your area because I believe other things factor in such as, humidity and night time temperatures in regards to performance and possibly how the blooms hold up during the day. From mid summer on, my night time temps start staying around the mid to low 80's so my brugs do not get a long cool rest during the night.
I had to move my butterfly out of the all day sun. I do not have any of the others. I have several in the blazing sun here and they love it.
