Watermelon 'Black Magic' (Citrullus lanatus)
It is an Asian melon. I never tried one that wasn't good although I am not particularly fond of the cantaloupe size. I once was stationed in Japan and really appreciated thier watermelons althogh you had to eat several of them to satisfy a watermelon craving. This one is a southeast asia type. These are just beginning to be imported into the USA, primarily from Thailand and India.
I was going to say no fair showing us this in February. Looks so good. So why do you have to eat a couple to satisfy a craving? Little flavor?
When I was younger , I could easily eat a 30 lb watermelon at a sitting especially if I was hot and thirsty. I can't do that anymore but back in the sixties, I ate 60 in a single season. Grew them all myself. That remains my personal record, I still grow hundreds I just can't eat near that many. Note these min-melons are 4- 5 lbs at best. Still takes more than one for me.
Gosh, 30 pound ones? LOL. And they are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good for you! I wish I had one right now. I keep buying them in winter and they are hardly edible. Another reason we need summer now!
Thank you for the great info Farmerdill.
I have a craving for one right now but as kell said they are
no good at this time of the year. I can remember as a young
man just eating my way through the watermelon fields. I was
raised in a part of Oregon well known for it's Watermelons.
Hermiston Oregon or as everone knows here in Oregon
Hermiston Watermelons Mmm MMMM Good...
Nice photo....where did ya snap that one? or who's is it?
Would like to try that type watermelon to compare it's sweetness with sugar baby which is also small bush type but green out skinned.
