Hi from Mississauga Ont

mississauga, ON(Zone 6a)

Hi, my name is Gisele. I have really only been gardening for a few years. This looks like a great place to get ideas and learn new things. Can't wait for this snow to go away. I have started some seeds inside this year. Will have to wait and see how that goes. I am also attempting to make my own fountain been working on it in the basement for a month or so. My yard is mosty shaded due to the many black locus trees that we have, so it is quite challenging. I look forward to looking around and getting aquainted with all on this site. Gisele

Welcome Gisele. You are right, this place is a wealth of info. I am new to this gardening stuff, but have bought a greenhouse and started some seedlings in the house. It is quite small so I can use a cheap electric heater and keep everything above 50 degrees. I have started some tomatoes, getting some strawberries healthy (they looked dead when I bought them a week ago at Lowes), and started some poppies. I, like you, have tons of shade and not much sun. I am going to try the earth boxes that I learned about on the forum and see how that goes. Keep your fingers crossed. Again welcome.

Welcome Gisele
I too just joined over a week ago and I am having a great time here,
lots of great people and lots of info..
happy gardening...

Welcome to Dave's Garden Gisele from the other side of Toronto from you. I'm fairly new to gardening myself, and plan to start some annual seeds quite soon. I thought it was too soon, but I'm finding out its not! You should check out the Shadey Gardens forum for your backyard, you'll get lots of inspiration there I'm sure. See you around the forums, and Happy Gardening.

thank you all for the warm welcome, I found some info on starting seeds outside in containers and gave it a go today. http://faq.gardenweb.com/faq/wtrsow/ Thanks again Gisele

Gisele, if you're in Mississauga, there's no possible way you're in zone 4b - you're either zone 5b or 6a. Here's a link to the Plant Hardiness zone map for Canada so you can check. We're cold in the GTA, but not that cold!! http://sis.agr.gc.ca/cansis/nsdb/climate/hardiness/intro.html
