What a mess

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I potted up a bunch of Brug seedlings and stacked them under lights on six foot long tables (stacked)with plastic on them (tables) in the greenhouse and wouldn't you know it. The dog gone things dumped them upside down. The vibrations from them working outside the greenhouse caused them to start sliding and tipped them over.Gosh, what a mess. I almost cried. LOL Thank goodness, I had put a tag around them plus one in the pot. Fifty seedlings and cuttings dumped upside down. A few broke the top out and one seedling I never found. I had to get fresh potting soil because the piled up mess of potting soil and leaves and stems was too messy to try to put back into the pots. I sure won't try that little again. My Mom told me if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck and right now I agree. LOL

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Poor Ada you sound like me. Good thing you tagged the plants as well as the pots. That saved you. HUGS

Wow, So sorry about your Mess.
I feel for you because I have had some experiences like this also.
It's nice knowing there is someone else out there that this happens
too. When it happens all you can say is !!Why Me!! Oh, and a few
choice words go along with that. LOL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

So sorry Ada. What a catastrophe! Hope you can save some of them. Do you ever wonder why these things happen? What have we done to deserve this??

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Donna.
Kin, I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. LOL
Gloria, I think most of them will be okay except the broken few which is questionable and the one I lost. I don't know what happened to It. may still be in one of the other plants that they fell on but I didn't see it. I had to try to scratch some of the potting soil off the other plants because it was so piled up on them.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

ahelms...so sorry for what happened...your luck is not all bad though, you are here with all of us on DG! Now that is good luck!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

You're right, Margie. LOL

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Awe shoot Ada ... so sorry! Good news on tagging them the way you did. Good thinking ... I would not have done that, but I just may change my ways.

Whitewater, WI

Awwww, I'm sorry to hear that, Ada... :(

At least you were able to save most of them...... I know all about that bad luck bug....been bit a few times myself.....

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Man, Ada, I am soooooo sorry, I hate it when stuff like that happens!! Last year, my cats turned over my seedlings and it nearly broke my heart. All that work, and then, poof, it's over - I bet you will recover way more than you expect, I bet your luck turns around!!!!!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Ahelms, sorry about the mess with your brugs. Do hope you are able to save most of them. I had a flat of tiny seedlings tip over once a couple of years ago, believe me that was a real mess, so tiny I didn't save much. Donna

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh good thing you thought ahead and double tagged them Ada. I put my second tag around when they go into a gallon can. I would cry and cry if mine got dumped and I didn't know which was which. I am so glad they look like they are all going to make it.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh Ada, your luck just isn't very good, is it? If you need more seed, let me know. I'm glad you didn't lose them all.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks everybody. I think all but a couple will be fine. I was lucky because if you had seen the mess, you'd have never dreamed any of them would have been fine. LOL I'm going in there today and see if I can find the one I never found yesterday but it's probably gone for good.It was only a small rooted cutting so it wasn't that important. The pots broke a few leaves of the plants (not Brugs)they fell on and they were covered with potting soil but I think all of them will be okay after I got some of the loose potting soil off them. I seen it start sliding when they started working outside the greenhouse but for the life of me I couldn't get there quick enough. LOL I bet I was a sight making a dive to try to save them. Today, it supposed to be in the mid 60's and the sun is shining beautiful. I've got to get outside and work. I can't stay inside when it like this outside. LOL

Shirley, thanks for the offer of seeds but I think I'm fine with all I saved. I have enough of each cross that I would have had extra even if I had lost most of those.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

What a mess Ada :( I am glad you were able to salvage most of them.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Oh Ada, I'm sorry. I've dropped a tray before and I know the sick feeling that you get.

I dropped my camera last week and wouldn't you know, it landed on a cement paver. It has a crack in the case, and the settings dial is whopsided and a little piece is sticking out, and the cover is gone off the flash - but it still works. I've taken pictures and downloaded and all was fine, it just looks so sad all askew. I took it to the shop and of course they said it would cost more to repair than to replace, so I'll probably just use it as it is for a while then go get a new one. I'll probably use it as an excuse to upgrade.

Ada, great, that you had them all tagged by the plants. I alsohad that "Oh, nooo!" feeling the other day LOL I was cleaning the windown in the wintergarden, when my armsleve got hold of a tray with EDW x seedlings and new sowed seeds. It was like I saw the tray fall towards the floor in slow motion and that I could only look at them as they fell. It happened very quickly, though.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Ihughes, sorry about you camera. I think I would have sit down and cried. LOL
Tonny, I guess most of us have experienced this sometime or other. My seedlings look good, just dirty from the potting soil on the leaves. A couple are wilted but I think they'll perk up. I never did find one seedling. I sifted thru the dirt and leaves but never found it but I have others of this cross so it wasn't to big of a deal to lose it.LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gosh Ada, I bet it was the only triple purple you had! It was going to surprise you! Go look again.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Can you duct tape it Linda??? With cracks like that, it's amazing it works at all...

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

I'm so sorry to hear about your Brug seedlings. If you need some seeds, please let me know.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I've been wondering how to get a new camera. LOL! With my luck, mine wouldn't break at all. I've had mine for several years now and I think I'd like another one, but it really does work okay. I just wouldn't like having to fork over the money to get another one.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

You're right, Kell. I bet that was the only double/triple purple I had. Don't I have all the luck? LOL

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Poor Ada, sorry to here of your mess but it coulda been worse. If it had been me I woulda just had tags in the pots and all would have been lost. I guess your luck is better than mine..........
Hope they all perk up and do good for you.

Dee

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Ada. I know I will pot up an entire tray of one cross and then I look at the few I didn't pot up and think I have missed out on the one perfect brug. I have dreams of making tons of crosses and having acres of seedlings growing. In my dreams I grow them all out!! Every single one.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks, Dee. I think they'll be fine.

Kell, I don't know if that's a dream or a big nightmare to have to take care of so many but it would be interesting. LOL You'd have to quit your job so you could tend all the Brugs and watering time would be a nightmare.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Wouldn't it be great if it was our job? We could get paid for being gardeners. Sounds like all that and heaven too!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I sure wish I could get paid to grow Brugs, Kell. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Me too. We must be doing something wrong. Now if I were younger......... LOL

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell if we were younger, we may find other things that we thought was more important or exciting than Brugs. Do you think? LOL
