potting up

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I spent some time in my little gh today. I potted up from3" pots to ! gal, or a little smaller. I think I potted 12, mostly seedlings. There was one Species and 1 CG. Of the ones I potted up, some were log starts, one was rooted in water. I tried 2 in water one never showed any roots and finally turned to mush. The rest were rooted in perlite. Most if not all were cuttings from above the Y. I think 5 have buds showing so for me it really makes a difference where the cuttings taken. I hadn't been fertilizing, but now I must begin. Of the brugs I have in the gh in large pots, ( 5 total, thats all the room I had), 3 have several buds and blooms.

I did put 3 large potted brugs out in what I call my Bonsai storage room. The temp stays at about 40-45 degrees. They have lost all their leaves, and aren't showing any new buds yet, I hope they are still alive. Anyway that used up a lot of my time, and I am out of potting soil and there isn't any available in my small town. He said he was going to order some in right away, I hope so. I don't like the kind that is available at WalMart. Donna

Those are my favorite kind of days. I hear it is 70 degrees back home so I bet lots start to grow now. It still can get cold though.

Have you been watering the ones in the storage room once a month or so Donna?

Donna -- you had a productive day! I have so many seedlings and cuttings in my GH that are in desperate need of being potted up, but I don't have time, nor the room until it warms up enough to put them outside during the day, and on the porch at night LOL! I'm just going to have to water twice a day until then... The things we do for these babies!

I sure hope your dormant brugs are okay!

I wanted to put some of my seedlings and get moved to the greenhouse, but the two week forecast looks like we are going to have some single digit temps again and I don't want to have to worry about the heat going off in the greenhouse, so I'm kind of putting the seedlings in as much of a holding pattern as I can right now.

Donna, I had brugs in temps quite a bit lower and I've taken cuttings from them and they are leafing out, so I'll bet they will be just fine.

Great post Donna, I love to read that kind of update. I bet your efforts will be well rewarded!!!
I am trying to wait until at least March before potting any of my GH plants, which will have given them two months to be 'dormant', which I don't quite understand - none have been fed, inside or out, so maybe that will do it...................whatever, you live in the magic zone 5a, Donna, so I bet your stuff will be special!!!!

Thanks for all your kind comments. I think the brugs in the bonsai storage room will be okay. I did today see some tiny sprouts showing on one stalk. The seeds I planted are beginning to sprout. Most were old seed, just wanted to see if they were still viable. So far I do see 2 germinating of the 15 or so seeds that were OP on my Snowbank. I don't think there is much chance of seeing anything different with those, but just fun to try..

I do water the large pots of brugs out in the storage room maybe once a month, just when they seem to be drying a little, as I have to water the bonsai occasionally too. Also have a large Rosemary topiary there too. Donna
