I took leaf cuttings from my Dragon's Wing begonia, rooted them, and just 2 days ago planted them. Since they've been planted and exposed fully to the grow light (which they need I think since they're in a basement) they're drying up at a rapid rate. Is this normal? It's the first time I've done these. When I did African violets the same way, they flourished. I'd appreciate any suggestions of what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks,
Michele
Please help with begonia cuttings
Perhaps they are burning up. Begonias don't really need all that much light. Outside, they can aclimatize, but yours are freshly rooted and have no root system to speak of. Try a north or east windowsill.
I have had angel wing Begonias for eons. I take 8-10" stem end cuttings and root them in water outside. Then I put about 4 of them in an 8" pot. By the end of summer, you will have a beautiful, lush plant.
Inside, in the winter, they will drop a bunch of leaves (unless you have ideal conditions). Not to worry! Repeat the cuttings the next year again. If you do not take cuttings, they can grow very tall on a single stem. Not all that attractive....
Thanks. That's exactly what they look like - burning up. They'll have a new spot this morning!

I root all my Begonias in damp peat moss, & a little root hormone can help too. They take a couple weeks to root, but most will oblige given some bright light & adequate moisture. I find most will wilt slightly for a few days after I root them. Good luck! Julie
