Rex Begonia "Es Cargot"; Searching......

Orangeville, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi! When the weather breaks above totally freezing, I would looooove to have a start of Rex Begonia "Es Cargot". I saw a picture once and fell IN LOVE with it! So though it's a bit early yet to send in the cold and all, I'm just "puttin' it out there" for anyone who may be able to trade or send me one for SASE(B). I probably have all sorts of things I could come up with to trade, as I have waaaay too many plants (or so says hubby, ha). Let me know if this applies to anyone. :)

Peace and warmth!

I, too, would like to get this plant--would trade an equally beautiful B. Princess of Hanover cutting for it!!

MK, please send me a private email with the pix of your B. Princess of Hanover attached to it. www.vossner@earthlink.net . I'll try to cut and paste a good pix of my Escargot and maybe as a group we can determine if they're different or not. At first sight, these plants look the same to me. Maybe the pictures will shed some light.

Wish I'd have known folks were looking for this a while back, as the HD in a town I visit once in a while (but not too often) had 4" pots.
If I do visit there again in the near future, I'll pick up a couple of them if available!

After seeing a rex begonia on DG's last summer, I knew I had to have it. I found one at the above link. It arrived in great condition and I have had it for about 4 months and it is still alive. But it doesn't seem to like me or its new home. Because it gets new leaves on it and then the old leaves dies. I must be doing something wrong. But I am still trying, and by golly I plan on succeeding rather my rex know it or not.

Edit to correct sp.

Oh, yes, the much coveted Escargot! There was another thread going as well and several of us were drooling but no one seemed to have any to trade. I checked the plantsforkids site and thought they were a little too expensive. I'm going to try and find one at HD or another garden center here in the spring.

Edited to say I just checked the plantsforkids website again and it is now on sale. The price includes shipping so it looks like a pretty good deal to me.

I bought three from the link above and killed every one of them. I'm giving up. Begonias and me just don't get along. LOL!

Shirley,
Did you buy the three at the same time? Just wondering if they could have been diseased or something when you got them. Much better to think that than think of you killing the poor things! :-)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, I did get them at the same time. I'm thinking that is how they were offered. I followed the directions for growing, but they just wilted up and died. I've still got the pot in hopes that they will come back from the roots. I actually had four of them. One pot had two in it. I gave one to Kyle. I'll have to ask if he still has his. It was an expensive lesson for me.
