Gotcha! I mean, of *course* Wheatgrass. I sprout wheat berries (which I have on hand anyhow because I grind my bread flour) and then plant them; within a couple of days it's tall enough to withstand the pulling from the dogs and cats. They LOVE it, and it doesn't have the little barbs that a lot of 'regular' grass has.
But my question is, how long can one keep cutting it back without losing the original nutritive value? In the past I've started fresh grass every couple of days as soon as the first one gets scruffy, I toss it out. But it would be a lot easier to cut it back, and use less soil (which I have to keep in the house all winter).
I used to stop growing it when the fresh greens started appearing outside (like about April!) but then I discovered they prefer wheatgrass to regular grass, so now it's a year-round thing. Does anyone else do this, and how do you do it?
I posted a picture of it on the "what do you feed your pets" thread.
