I start mine all in one pot. I had some seeds two years ago called Brazilian White. Can't remember where I got them. Looks like you will be on the way to growing brugs very shortly.

Goferit!!!

I have a question: when multiple seeds are started in a cube of rockwool...what is the best way to tear/cut/pull? separate them out?

Still learning...and happy.

Carol

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Best way.....very carefully. Rockwool does come apart very easy so just watch that you don't strip the roots off the baby seedling.

i have done a google search on your seed
there are several places around the country selling it
all selling under the same # & name with different $
some state the seed comes from the largest Grower in Brazil
so your seed is directly or very close to the wild :-)

Carol, I use a long, thin wooden stick, to separate seedlings, that's used to grill meat, it has a point on the end, but it isn't sharp, I get them at the grocery store...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Funny Sherry....we gardeners really can make multiple use of kitchen things.....I use potato nails to separate mine. LOL!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

LOL, yes we are creative when it comes to our brugs, aren't we, Brugie, I've also used a metal martini olive stick...I think they are similar to potato sticks...

i'm getting nervous. it feels like i'm backstage with my seeds, the audience is waiting...

(is this mic on?) and now, presenting...for the very first time...LOW TECH production presents..."10 brug seeds in jiffy peat pots!"

Cute, Moonglow, good luck!!! Did you peel them, or are they wearing their corks?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cool!! I looked for clear solo cups today and found only one size at our WalMart and it was way to small. Will have to check further. Looking good, Annapet.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

May you be blessed with many happy little seedlings :)

Corte Madera, CA

Thanks, Sherry. Peeled them. I'm thinking of just letting the sunshine do it's magic. They are inside the greenhouse, and that side is south-facing.

Corte Madera, CA

Cross posted, Pam, Shirley. Thank you! I guess now we'll wait and see!

In a few days/weeks then.

=)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

moonglow...with peeled seeds, you should see some really quickly, probably! Good luck!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I'm glad you peeled them, it's been so much faster for me, and they should be fine in the GH, but don't let them get too dry, as if, LOL!!!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

just a word of caution on the jiffy pots, they suck the moisture from the soil, so you need to watch closely. that has been my experience anyway....
Good luck, looks like you are your way to have great brugs

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

I have had poor experience with peat pots also, so I would suggest when you plant them on, to be sure to thoroughly break up the pot. I had the experience of my poorly growing tomatoes I once planted in them...when I later took them up, they were actually rootbound, still within the little 4" pot! They were supposed to go through it!
So, I second the caution on the pots!!!
Good luck and how are they doing?
Margie

Corte Madera, CA

thanks for the peat pots caution. i had a few laying around, so i thought i'd use them.

=( nothing's happening yet.

Dick

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Really Dick, a great question!! I can't wait to see what these Brazilian brugs look like!

Corte Madera, CA

Dick, thanks for stopping by! I almost gave up on them. Took ages to germinate. Five (5) have decided to sprout. I'll post pictures later.

have a great weekend.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

The Brazilian whites that I bought were just white suaveolens. Nothing special. I was a bit disappointed at the time.

OK March 12th update please bump

Corte Madera, CA

hello everyone! sorry i haven't posted in WEEKS. i had NOTHING to report earlier except for my seeds' down time. so slow. and i think this is it. 5 sprouted out of 10. i'm still THRILLED, of course. here are pictures of my babies taken today. i planted them in 2 gallon pots, and they have been outside in somewhat sunny location for ONE week. survived the rain all weekend.

another great news, i think. brugs survive the outside cold here in corte madera!!! the yellow brug at my parish is blooming like crazy. i'll ask the parish secretary for a CUTTING. so tempting to just snip =), but it was easter yesterday and i just got out of church when i saw the yellow brug tree.

MY pleasure, Moonglow, thanks for sharing!!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

They're looking great.

Corte Madera, CA

sherry, thanks. i missed you all here in this forum while waiting to report on my babies. i have been enjoying the bulbs that i have planted the last few weeks...so that kept me sane.

had some guests over the weekend and drove them around town. here and in san francisco. i saw brugs everywhere! out there. that means, i can keep my brugs outside and no more wintering inside the cottage.

=)

i hope you've all been well and enjoying your gardens coming alive after winter.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Lol, Moonglow!! I ride around my fav landscaped yards and I do the stuff they do, like cut back the liriope, when I see Ester Jo cut hers back, I go straight home and cut mine back, she catches the first day without rain, after Easter Sunday...works ever time for me too, ROTF, but it's true!!

Corte Madera, CA

the cheering did it! thank you all!

all five seedlings started blooming september 2005. i was reading on brugs today, and shirley, mine are just suaveolens, too. very light yellow. still exciting for so LOTS of cuttings will be available for this one!!

I also have available for adoption:

1 Variegated Spider Plant still available
1 Double Pink Confederate Rose Hibiscus (about 1-2' tring since most of my brugs are gifts from other dgers, too.

i hope you are all enjoying your brugs.

=)
