Does anyone have a good picture of Colocasia esculentum, that we could use for our site and Ebay ads? Credit will be given to the photographer if they want, and I'll offer a $25.00 credit to our site, with free shipping. It needs to be your own picturethough.
Thanks,
Chris
Colocasia esculentum photo needed.
I am thinking rylaff or weeds may have a good one. I have seen so many good ones, I can only sit here with my tongue hanging out. :)
I'm sure someone will come along. I also need Gloriosa rothschildiana, if you have that one.
Chris...not good on names, but is that C. esculenta the one they call Chinese Taro, and has the heart shaped very green leaves? If so, I will send you one tomorrow....
I'm not overly familiar with it. It's the more common EE found in commercial production.
The species I have named correctly, so honestly any pic that even resembles it will work. So many of them look the same.
Thanks,
Chris
Chris...it is the common Taro...not the one I was thinking of. And I don't have any to shoot. sorry. :(
Wow Brugie, that's pretty.
ditto!
=) how long did it take to be that BIG, brugie?
Frannie sent me some starts and that was the first summer I grew it.
Pardon my lousy manners. Thanks you guys.

Brugie,
That'll work just fine, and I appreciate it. Take a look at te site when you get a chance, and send me an email on what tickles you fancy.
Thanks again,
Chris
Chris, thanks, but it is just a picture. You don't need to send me a thing. Glad to help.
Shirley
Shirley,
We've chatted on here enough, and I knew that would be your response. I really want to send you something though, if for no other reason than to push the zone, and see what a talented northern gardener can do with some of these tropicals.
Please send me a note through the email here, and we'll work something out.
Thanks ,
Chris
Great pic. You'll need some A. titanum to imitate Audrey and guard the inside of the door.
Hi Kin,
Amazing pic! Ears look outstanding. What is the vine over your door?
Thanks, Jackie
Shirley, it grew so well for you in your Iowa weather with the shorter warm season. I sent many boxes of these out for postage and it is so nice to see a picture of how they did in your yard. It is lovely with the castor bean plant as a background.
Thanks Frannie. It did grow like crazy. Those leaves must have reached three foot long in some cases.
Hiya Shirley,
I almost forgot to pass an "giant elephant" compliment to your photo too. I really admire the contrast between the castor bean & colocasia. You've got the ultimate in green thumbs!! LOL Jackie
Thanks Jackie, but that green thumb is slowly turning brown. Either that or maybe the additional years that get tacked on to my age as time goes by.
I don't believe that for a minute.... from what I've seen that you've grown, and what you know, I am ( as a relatively late-bloomer in the world of gardening, if you'll excuse the expression) greatly inspired!
Anyway, you know the old standard....you get better with age, like a fine wine..... :)
Jackie
Or broken down and spoiled....Thanks Jackie. You're sweet. I do think I'm getting tired though.
Kin, do you get big potatoes on the vine? I love the leaves, but won't have a vine next year. Mine was all vine this year and I think it had one potato on it that was wedged so I could hardly get it out of the trellis. Not sure what I did with it anyway. LOL!
That looks awesome ^ Sorry for the silly question, but by what method does it attach and grow to the roofline? Jackie
Last year I got very few of the potatoes, not sure why not either. I just like it for the leaves and Super fast growth. You can almost stand and watch it grow! LOL
As for the attaching itself~ I used the push tacks and twine to train it where I wanted it. It just took over after I ran out of tacks and twine! LOL Hope this helps Hellobebe. Oh and I don't really think there are silly questions when it comes to Gardening... Just silly Gardners.
Lisa,
Is that G. rothschildiana?
Soooooooooo, hoping it is.
Chris
Thanks Kin ~ from the "silly gardener!" LOL
Yes, Chris , it is rothschildiana. The flower starts out red and yellow. It eventually turns completely red. This is one of my favorite plants and I have them growing in several areas of my yard. Extremely easy to grow, and versatile. If they have something to cling to, they can get 8 feet tall or so. I like to plant them under my azaleas, they grow up through the bushes and are so pretty.
