Kell, your baby L'A x EP is starting to make their way into the world...I planted them peeled in RW on 1-18-05, without soaking first...and here they are just 10 days later...
Kell's seeds...starting to sprout...
those are looking great Margie!
Could I please, please ask what - L'A x EP is? Sorry if it's obvious and I'm just missing it. Thanks!

Thank you, Julie
rich....L'Amour X Ecador Pink...thanks Dick for giving the abbrev. link!
Looking good, Margie.
margie, wow. more babies coming, eh?
is that the ROCKWOOL i hear about?
moonglow...yes, it is the rockwool...I planted about 50 seeds the same day!!! Usually my percentages are not very good! We'll see this time! Also have Butterfly x unknown starting to sprout, from Brugie....
Just don't ask me "where I am going to put them"!!!! That question is not allowed!
=) margie, of course i won't ask where you place them later on. but i'd like to know where you get 1 gallon and bigger pots in bulk.
i have a feeling, i may have to move to a place with a bigger lot. lol.
Moonglow...I either buy them from Summer Winds or get them from a landscaping friend. He doesn't like the 5 Gal size, and uses the 3 Gal. So he is glad to give them away.
BTW...do you live in Northern or So. CA! I could look it up, but thought I would ask you instead!
just north of the golden gate bridge. sandwiched between mill valley and larkspur. LITTLE TOWNS! lol.
OK...moonglow...not too very far from me! It looks like there are quite afew of us in the bay area. Maybe we should all plan to meet sometime!
Margie
margie, that would be awesome.
when is the BRUG EXPO? the orchid expo in san francisco is next month.
moonglow...I don't know!!! Is there really one??!! I will have to do a google and try and find out!! I have never heard of one though.
ha! if there's none, let's start one. we'll have our own chapter.
=)
Good for you Margie! isn't it fun???
so when using rockwool, you dont push them in (to where you cant see them). Just a lay them on top and barely push them in?
Margie, re your seed from Brugie - I planted mine the 23rd, I think, and mine aren't up yet, most peeled and they are not up yet. I planted some on Jan 3 and they started coming up before I got the last batch planted (slight exaggeration). It was much colder then and, for the life of me, I cannot figure out why these are so slow to sprout. I guess I'll do a better check today and see what is going on. And, my sprouts that came up so quickly are now just sitting there. Oh, well, we are getting sun maybe once a week, if we are lucky and my shop light blew out and I forgot to take it back to Lowes yesterday, oh, well...
Sherry, if you planted them on the 23rd. that is only a week. Don't worry yet. I've not had great luck with seeds this year. Just plant lots and hope for some. However, some years, I've planted lots and they all grew.
Thank you, Shirley! After only a year's experience, I know what you mean about the seeds and I'm going to start another big batch today. My goal is to get at least one nice seedling from each - last year I only got one of the cross I really wanted, and it was the first to bloom and was ahead of seedlings that still have not bloomed.
Gretchen...yes, it is great fun! I love experiencing God's miracle of seeing all that the one little seed will be capable of...it is amazing for me to look at everytime I see it! Except of course if it is a weed seed!!!
Jen...yes, they are pressed into the RW, but where you can still see them...
Sherry-like...I find each seed to be so different, even if from the same pod. Just like us, I guess...some are turtles and some are rabbits, looks like it starts at birth!! or at conception!
OK...Shirley...a question for you! What do we do if we plant loads of seeds and many of them take? If they don't bloom this year, that gives us alot to winter over! Any suggestions to make sure they all bloom this year?
Well, gotta go and see how they are growing this morning!
Margie
You shouldn't have any trouble getting them to bloom in your zone this year, even if they are just now started. I mentioned in another thread a while back that I had one or two bloom in August that were planted from seed on Feb. 14. I ended up getting bloom on about 1/3 of those seeds, but I have to give it up the first week of October. I held over all the seedlings that didn't bloom and those that I wanted to save. If they don't look like they are going to make a Y and bloom for me this year, around the middle of Sept. I'm going to cut them off and root the top in water in the garage where it is cool. At least that is my plan. I could also do it in the basement since I do have tables and lights hooked up down there. It will save a lot of room not having to house the two and three gallon pots with the plants in them.
Good news! The seeds are sprouting, of course they are teeny tiny, but they are obviously on their way!!!
Congratulations! Hope you get lots of Brugs with beautiful blooms!
hey Margie & Moon
don't give up on having a West Coast Brug conference
i think it sounds like a wonderful idea
even if we only have it in Kell's garage :-)
just a tiny little small group of west coasters :-)
Sherry
i have heard some of these tempermental seed can take as long as 2 or 3 months
i'm not sure i could be that patient :-)
Dick
Dick...that would be something to think about! Let's toss it around and see how many would be interested!
Margie
I'm signing up!
hi margie, how is it going? good luck with your seedlings. we'll all be waiting for those bloom photos. :) some of my sanguineas have flower buds now. maybe in a month or two we will get to see the blooms. i don't know about a conference but at least a local get-together would be nice in the spring.
Hi Mary...a local get-together would be great!
Thank you, Dick, I know from last year that you are correct. I really hate my impatience but i think it's the time of the year. We still have two+ months of cloudy, dreary days. Yuck! But, it does make spring all that much better...
