She bloomed!

had to share this beautiful bloom with everyone. This Alocasia amazonica is just an amazing plant that's doing great, especially considering how dark and gloomy it's been the last couple of months here. While my other two amazonicas have put out very little new growth since October, this plant is still continuously putting out new leaves.

Here's a pic of the entire plant with the bloom.

Wow! That is beautiful. I have two of them that are doing well, but yours is so tall. How old is it? One of mine has had two blooms which I thought was so neat. But they sure aren't as big as yours.

I think this one is about 3 years old. I've only had her for about 6 months and she was quite just a little smaller when I bought her from a local nursery.

Emily, she is a beautiful ear. I love mine, but it isn't doing as well as yours. I think I need a bigger pot for her. Will have to fix that this spring. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous plant.

The pot she's living in is smaller than you might think. It's only 8" across and 6" tall. These guys like to be a little on the rootbound side. Have you tried giving her some fertilizer? I also use ironite with mine in addition to the standard houseplant fertilizer. These plants also like to dry out a little between waterings and will benefit greatly from a small fan to provide circulation. One of my others hasn't put out any new growth since she bloomed last summer so I'm only feeding once every 4 to 6 weeks until we have more daylight.

Hi Emily, Nice bloom on your Alocasia. I must have got mine same time you did and they also bloomed! They did like it better outdoors and can't wait to get them back out there.

I know the weather is teasing us right now but it sure gives me the itch to get out into the garden and get things a going!!!
