I want to make some really pretty pots for my deck this spring/summer. I don't have a problem coming up with the flowers, but can someone suggest a vine I can plant on the edges that will hang over and give the pot some depth look? The deck gets full sun and gets hot.
Container pots for deck
Petunias-----Wave or waterfall madness---any petunia that falls over ---
Most vines get out of control---easier to choose a flower that will drape over the pot with control. And some vines will have root bound your pot and the plants in the center will struggle for nutrients.
Sweet potato vines come in differant colors but no blooms --deep purple leaves or green shades.

in addition to the petunias and sweet potato vines, i'm looking at bacopa and verbena and lobelia and dichondra [silver nickel vine]
Thanks guys, all real good ideas. I have more than a few pots to fill up and will utililize your suggestions. Love that nickel vine, I didn't know a thing about that one.
kathys999, I live outside St. Louis and I don't think lobelia would be a good choice in our area. They prefer more shade here. If you get full sun most of the day, they won't survive. They are so pretty, but we have to consider our location. I had several on my deck shaded by a plant rack and they did okay, but when I tried them in the sun on the deck they croaked. I gave the survivors to a friend that had a nice shadier place for them & she said they did real well.
Just a thought.
Prism
definitely good advice - i hadn't thought about that - the lobelia definitely like the shade
Thanks Prism, I have a portion of the deck that can be utilized for sun sensitive plants, so I may still be able to have some of that. I'm glad you told me because I have seed for lobelia, and I'd sure hate to see it croak, but I do like it alot.
