I think I've heard Monika say that she cuts the mushy parts off, but don't quote me on that.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Karrie is right. Cut it below the mush and pray!!

If they are mushy all the way up and down, Marie, they are probably gone.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

shoot shoot shoot some are mushy all the way t the roots.

am about to cry thinking about this. i lost some other things also due to mush( a few tropicals). my bauhinia tree seedling looks awful too. firsttime having one so any info on this one helps too. oh it makes me so angry.

Marie -- I'm so sorry! As for your Butterfly Bush, I think it'll depend on how old it is, but I grow them here in the garden and they die back in the Fall, and return in the Spring. Good luck...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Moko...they do fine all winter long? Where are you located? I'm pretty sure they would never come back in my zone. Too much freezing weather here.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Marie, hopefully your Bauhinia will survive but you probably won't not know until spring. I wanted to let you know that Bauhinia seeds are on Ebay all the time and they are cheap also. I have grown them from seed and they grow fast for me but it does take 2-3 years for most varieties to bloom.

I had a mushy cutting also..... Is the mushy a symptom or a result of a problem..... Is their turning mushy just the process they go through when they are dying as a result of pests, watering or other ?

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

mine turned mushy due to being vandalized and my greenhouse heater being stolen. extreme cold that night. if you want my thread "i give up" is on this forum and i posted a pic of the cold getting one of my many bucket full of cuttings. for all of mine it was cold.

they can also turn mushy due to pests and natural dying also. mushy is a chance you take with brugs it seems.

Osage City, KS(Zone 5b)

Sorry about your brugs being vandalized.... it's bad enough the acts of nature (pests and bugs). I think Kell had vandals awhile back as well...... I can't believe people are so well - evil........ just evil......
