Angel Trumpet, Angel's Trumpet 'Cuba' (Brugmansia versicolor)
Both your plant and picture are beautiful! Do you plant this out door? Can they handle the cold or the desert heat? I wanted to plant one but feel iffy about it.
I don't know how well they would do with desert heat, to be honest. Mine wilt here in the heat of the day during the summer. They will return from the roots if we don't have a very hard freeze, how cold does it get there? I think your biggest problem would be the heat, though, and it is dry heat at that, possibly if they were planted in the shade during the worst heat of the day, but they will require frequent watering.
Thanks for the info. The lows here are usually in the mid 30s and occationally dips down to the upper 20s. The heat here does kill a lot of my tropicals but those angel trumpets just looks so tempting. I guess I can always try and see. Thanks.
Joseph, the way the flower hangs depends upon the species. Cuba is a versicolor which is a species that has flowers that hang downwards, or pendant. Some of the other species flowers hang in a "nodding" and some horizontal.
Magnificent, so beautiful, wonderful photo, I have wanted one so badly and this year I am going to start one inside this month and move outside in June and back in this fall. Do they do well in a container ??
Yes, they do well in containers, provided the container is large enough and has adequate drainage. They like lots of water but don't like wet feet, if that makes sense. They also like lots of fertilizer. Minimum is 5 gallon container for potted brugs that are full size.
