Has anyone here done this? I have 2 jars that are probably quart size, short and fat, about 4 1/2 inches high with openings large enough to get my hand into, and lids with plastic on the inside. They will go on a shady windowsill and I will need very small plants, I am thinking of ferns and moss. Does anyone have pictures that could give me more specific ideas?
Need info on making a terrarium
Mary ,
Terrariums are great for indoors and I have several. Most of mine are large converted fish tanks but I do have a few smaller ones.
Some ferns grow very easily in them from spores scraped off the back of fern leaves but there are other choices you might want to consider too.
Micro African Violets do well in them and will even bloom, also many smaller gesneriads & a few mini begonia's will grow in terrariums with little or no care.
Check the link below for my pics of a couple of mine and you can also check the rest of the African Violet forum for ideas...
If I can help further just let me know.
Good Luck

Evening Mary -
They are fun and take such little care, I don't have a recent image of this one, but here it is from last April. I've done two major trim jobs on it since then and have probably only watered 3-4 times. Nature's own recycling system....the water collects on the upper surface and falls as "rain" only to rise again.
