Something a little different

Belleville, IL(Zone 6b)

This is Shaggy. I recently got two guinea pigs from a lady who could no longer care for them. One was sick when I got it and was a real feather weight. He died a couple of nights ago after I tried unsuccessfully to fatten him up. He seemed to be doing well, but it appears he had some sort of stroke when I had checked on him a couple of days ago. When my pet rats had strokes they would become wobbly and disoriented and soon die. I had planned on taking him to a vet in the area that sees small animals, but I kept checking on him to make sure he was alright and after a couple hours I went in to find him dead.
Shaggy probably knows from witnessing this that he is gone because he does not call for him. In a way it is better that they can see the dead animal and know what has happened.
Now Shaggy is alone and I am trying to help him adjust by keeping him with me more. He had to be in a box on my lap because he is not litter trained. I don't think guinea pigs can be as has been my experience in the past.
Anyway, he has been eating ok and does not seem to be grieving as much.
He is an abbsynian with the whorly hair. As you can tell he has no problem with his weight being too low. LOL
Sweetpea the one that died was a really pretty calico with smooth hair. Even though I only had him a short while he had won my heart with his little antics.
I hesitate to get a guinea pig pal from Petsmart because when the lady got Shaggy there two years ago, she said he had a cold. I don't need Shaggy catching something and getting ill. So I will be his surrogate piggy pal.
